So I got in line about 6am and finally got out around 11am. Playing the Old Course is flat out a blast. I played pretty crappy actually from tee to green although I made a bunch of putts and shot an 80. Hit a great drive over the hotel on the Road Hole, then a great five wood onto the green, then three putted! Oh the sadness. Then I was able to get up and down for par on 18 in front of a “gallery” which was pretty great. The next day I went to Carnoustie and got bludgeoned but that’s a different story for a different day.
I am in love with the history and tradition of golf. Knowing more about golf’s roots helps me get into the game even more. I play golf as a mental game much more than a physical game, and becoming one with the course is a large part of being successful. Seeing footage of the Old Course, I almost feel drawn to it. I can feel all the greats from the beginning out there, and I want to be there with them, and experience golf as it was originally.
