    Hi, Phoenix.
I am able to speak 6 languages.
One of them-Italian, I tried to learn by myself. This led to that I know it the worst. I remember just some grammar rules and some vocabulary words.I can understand Italian well, but if someone asks me..No, I answer him/her, but it would be very slowly and with the help of gestures.
I would like to advise you not to torture yourself, but to find a very professional teacher, who WILL NOT speak with you in your native language, but JUST IN GREEK! exclusively!!
This is the best and the shortest way to learn Greek.
And study that kind of Greek, which is mostly used by Greek population.
    Cheers!

Ancient or modern? 4 years ago

I’ve always been drawn to the Greek language and Greece itself(alas I have not visited yet)
Many many years ago i bought myself a learn Greek in 3 months book and despite many half-hearted attempts it’s taken me a little more than 3 months to get started (nearly 20 years)

In the last couple of years whilst studying for a degree in Art history and Classical studies I have been taken back to the magical world of Ancient Greece,in particular 5BCE Athens.

And now here I am trying to decide whether to learn Ancient or Modern Greek.I know they are very similar and I would like to learn both but not being a very good language student(5 yrs of French at school and all I can say is oui!)I think I will stick to just one at a time.

Ancient Greece is a big love for me but if I was to ever make it there then I would like to understand the natives so to speak.

Ok as with all my goals my life starts Monday so hopefully by then I will have decided which to learn.

    Here’s to me!!
