travel to Hawaii

How I did it: Every summer the girl scout council in my town organizes trips that girl scout troops can go on. The girls raise the money with cookie sales, plant sales, nut sales and other types of fund raising. At the time I hadn't planned on going on the trip because when I entered the troop they had been fund raising for a year. Then, last minute my friend's cousin, who was also in the group decided she didn't want to go. She already had a couple thousand saved in a girl scout account that would have gone to waste if someone hadn't taken her place so I did. My mom paid the remaining money needed and I got some extra spending money from relatives.

The trip was one of the funnest vacations I have ever went on in my entire life. Mainly because I was with my best friend and we goofed off 90% of the time. The culture was amazing! First we spent a couple days in Oahu. I swam in the Pacific ocean for the first time and watched the sun set over the Hawaiian mountain tops (while I swam). I also saw Pearl Harbor and took a hike in the Hawaiian rain forest. Then we flew over to Kona and spent the remainder of our time there. I got to walk inside a lava tube, visit a black sand beach and eat Hawaiian shave ice (mine was as big as my head, lol). It was amazing and I would highly recommend going if you get the chance.

Lessons & tips:
- Although Hawaii is an island not everywhere is a beach. Alot of the space near the ocean was covered with pointy rocks.

- Try the poi. I'm not going to lie it is gross but try it anyway. And when you do taste it and realize it's gross don't make a huge deal about it. The Hawaiians like it so you freaking out saying how it makes you want to barf is slightly offensive.

- Some places are have sacred meaning. You might want to tone down the goofiness while visiting them.
