I've created some weird stuff with stained glass 2 months ago

I created a pretty cool stained glass lamp out of an old Macintosh. Check it out here: http://www.stainedglassnetwork.com/stained-glass-projects/stained-glass-macintosh-lamp.html

It wasn’t difficult, in fact it was my first stained glass piece ever.

Stained glass is beautiful and really does cause a little divine inspiration… I like churches :)

Background: J gets in these modes when all he wants to do is figure out possibilities for our future. He is in his second year of medical school, and was looking up possible places for residency & beyond. I think he found a job board that mentioned an opening in tiny Winona.

He mentioned a big draw for me could be the fact that it’s the Stained Glass Capital of the World.

We spent the morning looking at the websites for all the six(!) stained glass workshops. It’s all so beautiful.

I have no idea when or how the stained glass will be incorporated into my creativity, but I did have a lot of fun looking at more styles.

And now, if anything, I know where a cool town I could visit the next time I’m in Minnesota. :) Though I somehow doubt we’ll ever live there…

My mother used to make stained glass when I was little. 16 months ago

I still know how to do it even though it’s been years. It was nice to see this on someone’s list. It made me remember lots of things.

I know I won't have time for this till next year 18 months ago

So once again, I am not giving up on this.. just setting it aside till I have the time to dedicate to it;)

I have never done anything with stained glass and I would love to learn. I think it is so beautiful.

I think any art concerning glass is so neat. The clarity or opaqueness, capturing light, and the colors! But stained glass is so unique, because you can derive shapes and forms. I always walk through cathedrals in such awe. And I’m seeing a lot more people just do stained glass as a hobby, and it’s so cool! I figured out that my creative style involves piecing together smaller parts to form one big picture: I love quilts, I’m big into cardmaking right now, I was mosaicing a lot when I had space, and now my love of stained glass seems to fit that motif so well. :)

I love to be crafty and artsy, but I don’t ever seem to make time or have space for it….I’m afraid to put this down as a goal that I never work towards, but I WILL put it down to keep me inspired, to help me research where I can take classes and get supplies, and see if I can bring it to fruition!

A quick thing I made the other day. It’s the triforce from the zelda series.

I haven’t made anything else in a while, mostly because I live in Houston and my workshop is in the garage where it is always sweltering. But it’s starting to get cooler, so I will be able to get back to it.

Yeah. What I thought. 2 years ago

I just sent off the third email to my ever-so-phenomenally responsive mother asking about her untouched stock of stained glass making tools (untouched in the 15 years since she moved to Georgia), and I got exactly the (non) response I expected.

So it looks like plan B for me.

This entails a trip to a stained glass shop and looking into official lessons. But heck, classes are a lot of fun and you usually meet interesting characters in art type classes, so all the better.

Now to dig deep into the budget and see when I can do it (and find a class, I guess, would be the logical first step… need to find the cost before I can budget it, sheesh)

Helloooo? Anybody out there? :) 2 years ago

I’m just getting started in stained glass. Anyone out there have any success with it?
