The waterfront streetcar is closing soon. 4 years ago

Funny how Seattle has several short-distance, ride-like transportation systems: the monorail, the water taxi, the streetcar, the ferries. Well, soon there will be one fewer.

November 18th is the waterfront streetcar’s last day in service apparently. When the conductor was questioned about why it was being shut down by a fellow passenger, he merely shrugged his shoulders and said, “Politics.” Granted, I had never been on the streetcar before, and the only reason I had wanted to try it was because it was closing down, and in fact the streetcar is more of a RIDE than a transportation device (evidenced by the fact that the conductor was a bit befuddled when some passengers didn’t want to take it right back along the water), but there was something about it that made you like Seattle. We have a nice streetcar. We have a nice waterfront. A bell is ringing. It’s sunny out, even though it’s a little cold.

I enjoyed the ride. We didn’t get dim sum at the end, instead looked around at pet stores and ate at the Tamarind Tree. Close enough.

Uh oh! 4 years ago

According to the Daily Journal of Commerce, on November 18 bus service will replace the trolley as a new maintence facility is constructed. The bus will be free and offer more stops than the trolley, but I can ride a freaking bus any time I want! Big deal! So we need to take our trolley ride before November 18, Erik. I’m not sure when it will be back in service after that.
