I lost over 50% of my retirement in recent market disasters. Looking for a small business of some kind that will work in this economic environment. Have no clue…looking at this time.
How to start a small business
How I did it: After a long time working for himself my then fiancée (now husband) decided to start his own painting and decorating company. So far, so good, it all seems to be going okay.

I’ve been working in recruiting/staffing for several years now. I work in a high volume environment and don’t get to spend enough time working 1 on 1 with people on their job search, resume and interview stuff.
I’d like to set it up online in a blog/consulting type of way.

In an effort to secure some funding, i’ve officially stopped my small busienss activities. I will resume in November.

My project got rejected for sponsorship. Damnit. This could jeopardise my other funding that I was really counting on.

I can’t sell the pictures I already own. I only just found out. However, now that i have bought a new camera, I can start again. I am not too disheartened. I feel I am inching closer to my goals.

I sent in a grant application yesterday. Fingers crossed it brings some money in. There’s nothing else I can do now about it.
Meanwhile, I am muddling along on work things. Not as focussed and driven and busily planning as before but, I am ok with that and anyway i have some serious and important other demands on my time at the moment too.
This will work in the long run, cause I am going to keep on trying. It may just take a little time to get going properly.

Something interrupted my life and upset everything. I haven’t done anything for two months now. In order to get back on track I am going away for a total break, an escape and taking a bit of work with me. I hope to come home feeling motivated and ready for everything again. But i haven’t given up the business plan yet.

Ok not earning anything yet. I’ve done the course. I am on the program. And I am working. I have a significant work offer and I am working hard. This is the sort of business that is slow to get going. Most people have a day job at the same time as they are starting. With me, I can’t do both.
Anyway, I almost gave up on this goal and now its come true. Though of course its only just begun and its not over yet, so I won’t just declare it done yet.

I have submitted my application to the NEIS program. And today i had a long call from one of their advisors. We discussed some issues which basically was really helpful for me. It resolves some of the things i was worrying about.
For one thing i though i didn’t have enough money behind me to do this program, but now i learn that i can work on the side as well. So that is very very positive. Not that I want to but if it becomes clear that i need the extra income, I will do that.
There was some bad news too, but nothing that really surprised me or that will upset my plans too much. Just that i can’t go overseas when I hoped too. So i only have to rework my plan with that in mind and then try to maximise the results of the delayed trip. Mabye i can go for longer. Maybe i can go somewhere i hadn’t intended to as well. Lots of maybes.
Anyway its all good.
