I have attempted NaNoWriMo four times. And four times, I have failed. Will 2008 be the year? I can only hope..

How I did it: I have signed up for NaNoWriMo every single year and never won it. I would start out well enough and then crash and burn after missing a few days of writing. This year I was determined. I missed a week's worth of writing, but then I just sat down and did it. I knocked out 15K in two days. I am still not done with my story and I am doing a DecNoWriMo with some people on the NaNoWriMo forums. Come join us… Read how I did it…

2005: First year I tried, wrote my 50,000 words but the resulting novel was unpublishable, and perhaps unreadable.
2006: The resulting novel was actually pretty good, after more than a year of revisions. It’s out to prospective agents now.
2007: Worked out pretty well. This novel is still in revision, so we’ll see if I can make something out of it. I excerpted Chapter 5 and submitted to a literary magazine.
not this year. i was doing good and i like my plot, but i got too distracted, mostly by the WGA strike.
i got about 13k
i thought about entering NaNoFiMo but i’m too tired. i’ll continue on january
I reached 50,058 words on the evening of November 27th and finished NaNo WriMo with three whole days to spare.
This competition rocks! For people who have always wanted to write a novel but could not seem to apply the seat of their pants to the seat of their chair, Nano WriMo provides the structure and the incentive to start and to finish.
Now that I have finished my NaNo, I still need to finish the novel but it’s all happening!
Happy dance!
damn. only got to about 15k. but i wrote 1000 words yesterday, and my goal is to hit 50K by the end of december. NaNoFiMo, anyone?
I did not write yesterday… that’s the first time all month. I was just too exhausted. This evening, after a nap, I passed 35,000 and then 36,000 words. Most of them were not brilliant words but I am working hard on just getting them down.
This is the last weekend so it needs to be BIG! Big word count.
I am totally going to reach 50,000 words by November 30th.
At 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 18th I wrote my 30,000th word. I am going to bed now.
I stumbled onto a reference to NanoWrimo (National Novel Writing Month) on this site, actually, and signed up to write 50,00 words that day. I felt that this kind of deadline – writing 50,000 words in one month, was exactly the type of motivation I needed to help me write this story that I have had in my mind for a couple of years.
I have to write 2000 words a day but so far, I have been able to manage it and we are now a little more than half way through the month.
What’s more, I am really enjoying the work and my characters. Certainly the story has taken some turns I never anticipated but I like that about my main character. She is a bold and independent gal.
Good luck to all you Nano writers out there. We CAN do it!
