How I did it: I have always wanted to make my own tshirts. I finally figured out how to actually make them and thought it would be a great business. So I submitted the paperwork for a FEIN (Federal Employer Identification Number - aka a business tax ID), and the paperwork to become incorporated in my state (actually an LLC for now then later incorporated if my business does well). I set up a zencart website to sell my shirts as http://silvereclipse.com… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I put up a website, registered my business and started to search for models.I also studied marketing and economics on my own. I takes a lot of courage to call people and alot of effort finding the right staff ( models in this situation) also alot of planning and organizing. Read how I did it…
How I did it: It kind of fell in my lap. I started making T-shirts to promote a concert my friend and I were organizing, and everyone loved the shirts so much they wanted to buy them. So I started telling people if they'd bring me a shirt, I'd paint them the design on it for five dollars. I then started coming up with more designs and I put them on shirts I bought myself and sold them. Now I have my own website you can order off of: www.pmb… Read how I did it…

How I did it: Got redundant due to global economic turmoil. Decided to just start working on my own idea instead of finding a new job. Then, things just flow from there. Well, at least i have built enough runway to cover my life while i'm working on it. So, the first thing you need to know is, how to survive while your business is not yet profitable. And, better be prepared for at least a year without revenue. Best is 18 months. Read how I did it…

Ameyami is back on 43T, after far too long
This summer was busier than I thought it would be, so this goal has progressed slower than expected, but I’m pretty close now. I’ve made my products, photographed them, decided on pricing strategies and looked into p&p. There are only a few little bits left to sort now before I open shop; hopefully by the end of the month. I aim to mark this goal as complete on the day that one of my items is purchased.

I am originally from China. There are a lot of opportunities now in China but I really do not like the environment there. I want to own a business here, currently I have two ideas: either a company which help visiting scholar or exchange student, or an ebay store that sells Chinese art craft. I need all the input from anyone with experience.

I want to find something I like and start small. If you work hard enough, you can make it in to a business that could eventually be your full-time job! I read a book that inspired me – it said that the key to life is making money off of others hard work! (while you are enjoying life) lol That’s what I want to do!

Having spent the past few months experimenting with some new crafts and finding out where my strengths are, I’ve decided to push forward with my Etsy business idea. I have many ideas for products, but I’m going to start by creating just three (the reason for this is that Etsy charges a listing fee for every item in your store) and using those to test the market, find out what’s popular. I’ve done a cost analysis (excluding p&p) and worked out my pricing strategy accordingly. The tasks that remain are as follows:
- Get to grips with payment methods
- Familiarise myself with Etsy policies and set up store
- Research postage and packing methods/costs
- Purchase supplies
- Make and photograph products
- List productsI hope to be up and running by mid-July.

I’m working to market Digital Zoom Kids! in every way possible and learn from others who are here on 43things and operating their own businesses.
Nothing motivates someone to work for themselves more than having to work for/with crappy people. My mom and I are both fed up with our jobs so we’re currently brainstorming a business plan.
We understand that the economy will make it a challenge for us to succeed, but we have both wanted to do this for a while, and we have our motivation. So far we have our business idea, now we need a plan.
