How I did it: I always thought it would be too expensive - a luxury for rich people. After we had twins, I felt like crap having a messy house. But I still didn't want to clean.I started working from home and thought, "It would take me hours to clean the house, or I can work for those hours and make enough money to cover a housekeeper once a week." I looked on Craigslist. I had used a big housekeeping company come by once when w… Read how I did it…

How I did it: My mom has a lady named Denise clean her house every two weeks, so I asked her to see if Denise could come and do our place. It turns out she lives less than 15 miles from us, so it worked out really well. We have just been too busy (with the film, Erik's job, my job, etc.) to do it ourselves, and too tired when we DID have the time. Plus, we had the film crew of around 15 people in and out for two weeks, then a pipe burst in our cellar (… Read how I did it…

I finally have a phone number, with a recommendation from someone I trust, but I can’t decide! Have them my house, where I seldom stay, cleaned? Have dad’s house, where I usually stay, but which we don’t own and has none of the good furniture but all of the hobbies, cleaned? Probably can’t afford both! Wait? That will be the “decision” by default, I guess.

Cathy, the housekeeper, called back, and she is going to start on Tuesday, which is the deadline I’d given myself to achieve this goal. Technically, today is the day! We’re going for every two weeks, which is more affordable for me and works for her schedule. I did it! So why on earth did I wait so long? Well, by Tuesday I vow to file away the tax papers in the living room, throw away anything I don’t need, and do the same for the kitchen counters. So I do have a task before me… I will do it!

I made the call! I found an ad for a local housecleaner who also helps one get organized. She was not home, so I left a message. Now off to clean the kitchen!
i have a passion for cleaning. i love housecleaning. it is like therapy for me. i am 57 years old, all my children are grown and i just don’t have enough to do around my own home. i live alone in a condo and ther is only so much cleaning to be done in my own home. cleaning helps me stay young feeling, when i finish a cleaning project, i feel as though i have done something important. cleanliness is next to godliness.

It is still overwhelming me. I do floors and bathrooms, but haven’t made much headway on piles. I will pick a room and do just one job at a time.

I am still planning to hire someone, but am tackling my piles and getting rid of things first. Does that make any sense?
