I am fortunate to live near a lake and I’m trying to enjoy it more so I’m very proud to say that I went and skipped rocks there today. There wasn’t a super-abundance of very skippable rocks but I made do and feel that I am progressing in this endeavour. =0) Tops, I got 4 skips I think but I was getting them fairly consistently which is much better than the last time I tried.
How to learn how to skip rocks
How I did it: I was at the lake near the boy's grandparents' house near Gig Harbor.
It was the 4th of July and we were finding smooth rocks to try and
skip, mostly for him though. I kept trying a few times to no avail, and then finally he showed me some techniques regarding angling and height of the throw. After about 5 tries, I finally got it!

well ive known pretty much my entire life, i think my dad tought me when i was five er something. Once you learn it, its pretty easy, and it becomes instinctive. Im totally pro at skipping rocks, im better than everyone i know, if i have a really good rock (slate is unbelievably awesome) and a still lake with no wind or boats making wake, i can get around 25 on average, i dont know how to explain it, but it just skips like crazy whenever i throw it. definaltly worth doing, i even skip rocks in a little man made pond about 10 ft across when im with my friends at the local park when im there and i can find a rock, or spare change works well also. It is soooo awesome once you learn how to do it, and if you practice you can get good, and people will be amazed if you can do it well.
Get a flat rock, and throw it like you would throw a frisbee from the outside (like you would make the wa-chhh whipped motion, not from the inside of your body, if that makes any sense), try to throw it as close to parallel as possible to the water surface, and wail it with your wrist. practice :) at the beginning, one or two skips is just fine, its great really- so many people cant do this and its my favorite thing to do whenver i come to a body of water
One year in high school, a day or two after Halloween, Jarom and I drove out to Lake Solano and he said he’d teach me how to skip stones. Wouldn’t you know we couldn’t find any good stones? Luckily I had my stash of candy with me, and we used the chocolate coins. I think I got one of them to work. But I have no idea how to do it anymore. Maybe I’ll stock up on half-price Easter candy in a few weeks, and use the Palmer’s Bunny Money to learn how to skip rocks. Goodness knows I don’t need to eat any more chocolate.
