Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

dragonfly35Surprisingly easy

I still need to file things correctly once I get my system up and running, but everything is organized and filed on the desk for when that day comes, and I’ve taken care of some nagging tasks I found in the pile as well. :) 5 months ago

dragonfly35My energy does seem to be back

and the desk seems like a great place to start with my big push to get organized during the second trimester. :)

I need to get a proper working filing system in the house (yes, I’ve been saying this for over a year) but I can start by sorting what is there into files and folders – it’s a manageable chunk and can lead into greater organization as we go forward. 5 months ago

Almost there! All the paper piles are gone. I have a tiny pile of “stuff” (literally 2” by 3” x 2” high) that I need to stow away but it is not in the way.

I do have all my CISSP books and notes on my desk now but I need those at least for the next 7 days. Once I pass the exam, I am going to give all those away!!!

So.. 99% done! 13 months ago

Still not done! I can’t seem to get the last few pieces of paper off my desk. I will get this completed by this weekend. 13 months ago

nawatramaniWhole lot better

Not complete yet but a whole lot better state than it was in last week. The big pile of papers is gone. A few assorted things that need to find a home still linger on the desk. Good progress so far! 14 months ago

nawatramaniLeft side of the desk

This morning, I realized that two months had gone by without making any progress on this. So I have started tackling the paper pile and will also be finding a place for the other items that have made their home here.

I am hoping I can get this completed today. 15 months ago

nawatramaniRight hand side clear

Tackled the right hand side of my desk today and it is clear except for the reference books for my online project. Since that is the designated spot for them, I am done with one side of the desk for now.

Next on the agenda – tackle the left side. Two parts – pile of papers to be sorted (file/shred/recycle) and things that needs to stay/go. 17 months ago

nawatramaniLaptop dock and stand

Bought a small stand which will allow me to dock my work laptop when I am at home. This also increases the usable area and means that I don’t need to move the other items like the USB hub, etc. when I want to work from home.

Next, I am going to tackle the two piles of paper on the desk. 17 months ago

Diane StevensClean? What's that?

At work I manage to be quite organized… I need very little at work to be efficient. A laptop, a keyboard, couple monitors… and a box of tissues. A pen and paper is only necessary to assist people that walk up to my desk and ask a question as I record all notes on my computer now… Slowly I organize all my electrical documentation too.
Just need pencils and pens at work since I rarely write anything.. At home.. My office is like after the earthquake.. only 10 times worse.. Ok, maybe 100 times worse.. That wasn’t a strong earthquake. The office is worse than the desk though. 2 years ago
