be someone's hero

I just think it would be lovely to be someone’s hero.

after the endofseason tournament last weekend
my teammate came up and we started goofing off like we should at 13
but she got serious and smiled a bit
and started
how this year I’ve worked harder than everyone
and how i inspire her
“seriously anna, your my total hero”
and CLICK
i felt great.
I was team captain that season
and i sweat, cried, and yes bled
I screwed my knee half way through the season
going to physical therepy three times a week
walking into school two hours late cuz of it
breaking down everytime my pt megan (god bless her) told me i couldn’t play a game
working my ass off in my spare time
crying myself to sleep
perfecting every move
running through every line
but i knew it was worth it
everything was worth it
when i heard those words

my sister saw my 43things list and told me that “I was already 50 people’s hero” and that “I need to listen more because they tell me so often”. I then told her most people were joking and she told me that I was her hero.

Seriously.

That short exchange was really important to me.

the next time I see her, I want to let her know
how much she really means to me
someone telling ME I was THEIR hero
would make me so happy
It’s not even descibable
(eek is that a word?)
but advice for everyone:
sometimes it can be embarressing, telling someone how much they mean to you and how much you look up to them
but they’ll apreciate and respect you for it

I was spending time with my grands this weekend, they saw me making entries here on 43things and wanted to know about it. I explained how the site works, goals, cheers, etc. My 9 year old grandson informed me that I could show this goal as having been achieved because he did a paper at school weeks ago and listed me as his hero. Even his sister told him how sweet that was.

I have decided to amend the original entry about this goal. I want someone to tell me I’m their hero. It doesn’t have to be someone close to me. I am changing this based on a comment I received on one of my other goals. That fellow 43er told me I was already a hero, that made me feel really good.
