I still haven’t. I ‘m hoping to go do so when I get my next paycheck.
How I did it: so it took me two months to finally get to the bank--
i found this slip of paper that says if someone refers me, we both get twenty five bucks. so i should be getting my "gift card" in the mail in six weeks, and dad'll get his in two weeks.
the lady who i signed up with knows my dad and was asking me personal questions, it was kinda weird and funny.
lastly, customer service wise, this bank doesn't hold a candle to my old one, and i have to BUY CHECKS? wtf.

Yesterday I went to the bank with my mom and I opened my checking account. I had 4 checks I hadn’t cashed yet so I cashed them and put $100 in the bank. The rest I took with me to pay for books. (It was only like $650..not like $2000 or something! I only work at DQ)
So now I have $330 left from the $650. I’m just glad I finally opened an account.
It is almost 12 PM and I don’t have anything planned for the day..well other than I have to work at 5. So I think I’m going to get something to eat, exercise a little, take a shower and get dressed and head to the bank! I think I’m gonna do it..and stop procrastinating!!
There are so many things I need to do and this is definitely one of the big ones. I cash all my checks and keep them at home with me..which first of all isn’t safe.. and second I keep spending it. I just got my license so now I can open a checking account. I’m hoping to deposit most of my money each week and save up for college and other things. And with a checking account, I can start an account at the gym, and also start building my credit. I’m kinda excited. I feel like an adult now.
Another big accomplishment for me post-divorce. It’s kind of fun being in charge of the money for once!!!
i am so excited that i opened an account. ive also decided to have direct deposit, which will make it easier to save. im 20 now so im trying to gain more independence and the ability to handle financial things well. i cant wait until my debit card comes in the mail, and i ordered checks with cats and dogs on them! haha im such a nerd but i don’t mind. =)
Gosh. I can’t believe this is a goal.
A checking account. How exciting. That’s really going to change your life!
I need to change accounts because when I turned 18 and received $12,000 dollars in social security my father hadn’t spent (from when my mother died) I had it moved out of an account which would have got me interest-albeit very low because the rates were crappy at the time-because I didn’t “believe in interest”.
Anti-interest. Anti-capitalistic. That’s me.
So I can write as many checks as I want. . .rather then being limited to three. . .but I have money still just sitting there. Not doing me much good.
Yeah. Joy.
Savings account might be better, eh?
Having an account has allowed me to write checks to some non-profit (can you say animal rights?) organizations. Wouldn’t want to be sending a fair amount of money through the mail. . .although it’s been a while since I donated to one of those either!
Went to the bank and got it all set up. My pin code is **, in case you were wondering.
