I want to help somebody. I always feel really good when I do it, so I want to be less selfish and do it more often.

I gave my chocolate chip cookies to a friend because she didn’t have breakfast. I guess this is more like being nice, but I helped her throughout some hard times.
Whoever said that when you help someone the help is returned two-fold, is so true.

I’m really happy knowing that I helped some one out. It’s a fantastic feeling, and I’m not going to give that up.

I enjoy helping people, even if it’s in a very small way. It gives me satisfaction knowing that I’ve made a difference in someone’s life.

Microsoft 2007. . . ugh 14 months ago

It’s so hard to get used to, because the 2003 package was so different. But I’m figuring it out. Today in the computer lab I helped two guys design their PowerPoint presentation for their group project. They had problems with finding images for their slides. They really appreciated my help.

My friend is running for the university student government president, and elections are less than a week away. He was talking to me on the phone, and he was telling me how nervous he is, but I encouraged him a lot and told him he’s doing great. He said he wanted to make fliers to hang around the polling area to spread awareness about his running, and that’s when I told him I could help with that and make them look eye-catching and super-spiffy. As he continued to talk to me on the phone about random things, I worked on his flier utilizing a digital photo of him that he e-mailed me. When I finished designing the flier, he was so so impressed. He said “thank you” so many times and I really knew he was glad someone cared so much about him winning.

I took the train today from Philadelphia to Harrisburg. When I arrived at Harrisburg, I met the nicest girl. We were both flagging the same cab, and it was the only one there at the time, so we ended up sharing it and the driver took us to our seperate destinations. She was really friendly and outgoing and made me glad I rode with her in the taxi.
Oddly enough, we both ran into each other on the train back to Philadelphia as well. It was quite a pleasant surprise.

When the train pulled into Philly, I asked her what her plans were. She said she had to go to the airport because she was from Chicago. She wasn’t sure how to get there, and said she planned on hailing a cab.

Philadelphia International Airport is several miles away from the train station on the outskirts of the city, and a cab would have cost her well over $30. I showed her the local transit she should take to save money- and told her to take the commuter train there. I showed her where to board it and how to read the schedule to get to her gate at the airport. She was very thankful.

Then she asked me what my plans were, and I told her I was heading back to school; Temple University.

About 10 seconds later, another girl, much closer to my age, came up and asked “Did you say you were going to Temple University? I’m meeting a friend there; can you show me where to go?”
This girl said she was from out near Harrisburg- she was on the same train as I was. I told her she could just come with me, and the two of us walked to the subway stop a few blocks away and on the way, I showed her some of Philly’s landmarks. I showed her how to buy tokens and take the Broad Street Line. When we arrived on the school campus, I pointed her in the right direction to get to her friends dorm. She was about to leave when this small girl came running up and gave her a hug. It was her friend.
“Thank you so much!” she said to me with a very sincere smile. I felt really good.

But believe it or not, there was one more person I helped today too. A moment after I left this girl who I gave directions, I ran into my friend Dave. He was really upset, actually, because he got a D on his English paper, and we’re in the same class. I’m really good at writing and helped him write a paper before that, but never got the chance to help him with this last one. He said, “If only I came to you; I could’ve done so much better. The last paper you helped me with got a B.”
I told him I’d help him edit it anyway, because the teacher recollects all the papers at the end of the semester for a final grade. He was so thankful. I went up to his room with him and read through his paper and showed him where it needed the most work. I gave him tips and left notes for him and gave him my phone number in case he had any questions.

“Dude, I really owe you one” he said. “I mean, anything you need, just let me know and I’m there.” He asked if I could help him with the next paper we were just assigned, which will be more challenging. I told him absolutely I would.

Then when it was time to go, I shook his hand and headed back to my dorm, feeling good inside knowing I really made a positive difference in 3 people’s lives. For the first time in a very long time, I really felt like a good person.
