Faustus is in unfamiliar territory!
the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (see this and this).
Oh, and if you have time, I’d recommend reading the related UN general assembly resolution, it’s a wonderful piece… Makes you think, “ummm, why not?” :)

Faustus is in unfamiliar territory!
keep giving me hard time because of my nationality (like there is anything I can do about it!). A large portion of my day is now being wasted because of this situation and its consequences. It’s personal, and I’m venting my frustration! Sorry!
“Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.” -UDHR, Article 2.
Is there anything vague about this statement?
I’m really trying not to let this ruin my attitude. I’ll continue keeping myself busy with work, sports, and books until it gets fixed… Wish me luck :)

Faustus is in unfamiliar territory!
take refuge to the science community, build an imaginary house of books and papers around you, and you feel safe and away from all discriminations. No, unfortunately it doesn’t work that way… not always.
It’s a short, but self-explanatory, line in the news: “The American Chemical Society Terminates the Membership of Chemists from Iran.” So, yes, if you reside in Iran (and I guess Cuba, Sudan, ...), you are not allowed to use what the scientific community traditionally shares. And these are not about classified information or anything, it’s about regular journals and publications. The excuse: there is a huge fine if the trade “embargo” is violated… go figure!
It’s not the first time this happens, IEEE did the same thing (same excuse!) last year but retreated after it created a major outcry. I really don’t know what to say… I am not mad, just sad.

Why does it matter what your religion, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, level of education, type of dog you own, type of car you own, etc etc etc is to so many people? Labels are dumb….is that person sitting across from you on the bus hurting you because she’s asian? or the gay couple you walk past in the grocery store? What about the multiracial couple? wiccan? buddhist? muslim? As long as people aren’t causing anyone harm, why the fuck does it matter to people what and who they are? Labels are dumb…I’m am not a label I’m am Margary Thrasher and that’s all you need to know.
