Getting into music 7 months ago

wow im still so unsure if i wanna get into music or not but im really sure at the same time (kinda confusing i kno). im 19 so i still have time to decide to make a living out of music. only problem is that i have no music background! just today i was looking for music schools that teach basic music theory for ppl who never studied music b4. I would like to play the Paraguayan harp and the guitar. I love the sound, the music of these 2 instruments, ive never felt such passion for something. but playing them is another story. i guess ill have to try but playing them shouldnt feel wrong since i love how they sound so much. we’ll c in the coming weeks when i start :D

Flute and Bass Guitar 17 months ago

I learned many years ago to play flute- even wanted to go pro and study music in college. That didn’t quite work out.

I taught myself the very basics of bass guitar. Just the basics though. I’m passionate about music, so yes, I’d completely consider this worth doing!

There is almost nothing more worthwhile than getting to the point in your musical career (the term career can be used lightly if so desired) where you can let go of worrying about the technical aspects of playing your instrument and really immerse yourself in the music. I make my living as a professional french horn player, and I can tell you with all honesty that I wake up everyday and smile, thinking about all the opportunities I have. Music can change your life. It doesn’t have to be great, or professional, but whether you’re listening, or playing, it can move you in a way that makes you rethink everything. It can make you laugh, and cry and scream and fall in love. What else in life can do that? What else can have such a profound effect on your life, with something so seemingly benign? This is worth it. Do what you love.

Learn, Learned, Learning 4 years ago

Trumpet was my thing for years and years. I was studying to be a music teacher originally!
Found piano wayyy to late, but I love it. Play by ear now only. I wouldn’t say I’m good, but I’m good enought to feel the value in it. That is, I really enjoy it.
I haven’t touched my trumpet in a long time.

I think it would be wicked cool to be able to play any kind of instrument at all, so eventually I’m going to learn how to play one…or two…or three…or…

A guitar, preferably.

howdy!

i taught myself how to play the guitar, and while i’m no schredder, i am good enough to have a very good time singing along & making up stupid songs, heh.

but remember, when you first start anything new, you aren’t going to be the best at it.

start small – with the guitar, just learn one string songs, or make them up until your finger dexterity is okay enough to move on – you’d be surprised at the nifty sounds you can make with one finger pressing down on one string and plucking, heh.

have fun & if you get frustrated, put the instrument aside for awhile (but NoT out of sight!) – the key is to pick it up and learn as you go, when you feel like fooling around.

it worked fer me!

:D!

Learning an instrument 4 years ago

I would love to learn how to play the piano, guitar, or saxophone. I would have loved to learn to play something when I was a kid, but back then I would easily quit something that got hard or that I did not understand and it would have been a waste of money for my parents. Now, however, I am so much more mature and can appreciate it so much more. So as soon as I have enough money put aside, I will start taking classes, but I’m not sure which instrument I would like to start with yet.

Talent 4 years ago

I always wanted to learn how to play an instrument. My parents just didn’t have the money for lessons, or for band. My brother played the trumpet, but that was when times got better for my family.
I remember when I was about 8, my music teacher told me she was going to be teaching piano, and that I should take her class. I told my mom, but she just said we didn’t have the money. I was the sort of kid, that just dropped things at the mention of money problems. I guess I was always privy to that part of our lives, so I knew I couldn’t even try to push.
So I never really knew, and might never know if I ever had the talent to play.

Musical Instrument I’d like to learn:
  1. Piano
  2. Guitar
