declutter the house

Finally gathered up my former step-daughter’s dresses (my mom used to buy her beautiful dresses for Christmas and I’m thinking even though she can’t fit them anymore, she might want them for her own daughters someday), which means I have gathered up everything I could find needing to go out to my ex-husband. Lots of photographs, as always – not sure if he’ll ever do a thing with them, but he should at least have the chance. Even though nothing I still have is very important, I’m happy to get it all together and soon to mail it to him because that way one more fairly personal tie between us is gone. It’s a cliche, but I meant what I said – I would like to be friends if possible – but in order to do that I need to become less of an ex-wife. It may never happen, but at least I tried.

Yay! The waste management people just came and so now I can put the rest of the trash from the garage (which is very nicely cleaned right now) in the Big Blues. That’ll make the back door all nice and not surrounded by old things that needed to go.

Next step – cleaning out the mud room (even though it’s the back door, most people want to come through it).

Got this tip from Clutterorganizers – and what a simple, smart way to do things. Some days will be more, but I bet in about six months, the extra unnecessaries would all be gone. That’d be great!!!

. . . there is still a lot of random stuff I will never use, and perhaps someone else could. So time to give things away to friends and more to charity, and then organise what I keep. In a combination effort to keep the house neat AND save money, I need to bring a lot less IN to the house. Need to get some plastic storage boxes, and recycle the cardboard boxes as they are not basement-flood proof. By the time Halloween comes, I want to have the basement organised, and before that, I should probably have my closet organised so I can easily find my Fall clothes.

My wife and split the decluttering duties up over a two month period. Tackling one drawer, closet and box at a time. I feel so good to be done with it! Now we have to reassess our storage unit downstairs. We cleaned it and organized it about 6 months ago, but we need to declutter it of all the junk.

To not have little stacks of junk everywhere.
