Success again. I am going to be volunteering for a cancer center as well. So now I have two organizations to focus on and devote some time to. Very very happy to finally get my act together on this.

Finally! I wasn’t very active in working on this goal and let sit on my list for too long. But today I got accepted to do some volunteer work at a center for people with disabilities. The organization is awesome and the people were really friendly. The cool part is that I can do it from home, or go in and work in the office. Yay! I can cross this off my list now.
Ok, sooo the deal fell through. I went to the organization’s office to attend the training meeting, as planned. AND…. the building’s door was locked. I was kind of peeved after spending my time and gas to get downtown only to be blown off, or forgotten about. And this is the second time that I’ve gone there and had nothing substantial happen.
So, needless to say I think it’s time to start looking for a new place to volunteer.
This goal is almost done! In two weeks I’ll start training to become a volunteer advocate for poverty, for an organization in my city. It should be very interesting, and a great experience for me. I have basically NO volunteer experience at all! For some reason I’m a little nervous. I think it’s because the position I have will have direct influence on people’s lives. And I really don’t know much about this field… but that’s what the training is for I suppose. I just need to make sure I follow through with everything and have faith in myself, I’m sure I’ll be fine. It’s exciting!
A few days ago I received an email from an organization that I contacted a few months back. So I am going to reply and set up a date to start training for this volunteer position they offered. It’s an organization that helps individuals who are living in poverty, regarding their legal rights and housing issues. It’s a field that I am very interesting in being involved with, and will be a good experience for me, as well as providing me with some contacts. I think it will be really great for me, so I hope I’ll be able to organize my time enough to commit to it as well as dealing with school.
This is something that I have been thinking about for a long time. My ideal career is to work for an organization that focuses on challenging a particular social issue. But I need to get more experience, and maybe find a place where I can get my foot in the door and meet people who work in this field. It is difficult to find time to volunteer, what with being a student and also working part-time to pay the bills. I basically have no free time already. But I suppose that is just an aspect of volunteering. I need to create time for it.
I loved to volunteer when I went to the Boys and Girls Club. It was so fulfilling, and I would love to start doing that again.
