In theory I wanna go to The Hub 3 if I can afford it! I’ve the hotel booked for €150 squid – need to book ticket £78 squid and plane €60.50 and I’m there!
Hopefully Chris will go with me but I’ll be fine by myself!
I love TW so fingers crossed and think I’ll start out with this small convention.

As a bit of a Sci-Fi geek, I’ve always wanted to go to a convention, preferably one with the hard-core fans that dress up, because I’m always looking for excuses to wear costumes! Aside from that I think it would be really fun. I really really really wanted to go to Celebration IV, but as I’m in Australia and it was in LA it wasn’t quite a possibility :(

I have been to many, many science fiction conventions. They, as a whole, are well worth attending. This is assuming that you like to read science fiction, or at least watch it, or like to hang out with geeks in general.

I took my husband to The FX Show for his birthday. I’m not much of a sci-fi person. For “straight” sci-fi, I really only like Firefly and a couple movies like Stargate and Jurassic Park. Well, and authors like Sherri S. Tepper and Ursula K. LeGuin who have an element of feminism in their works. But I still enjoyed it, probably because I enjoy being around others having a good time, and almost everyone seemed to be. I mostly sat in a corner knitting and taking in the sights. If you are not a sci-fi fan going with one I definitely suggest bringing something to do to amuse yourself to stave off the inevitable boredom.

I went to Pegasus 2 in London in February 2007. Great fun, met lots of nice people, and had such a good time that I bought a ticket right away to go next year!

I went to a Sci-Fi convention which was fun, but I would not do it again. Basically, there is not as much to do except hang out with all the other nerds that are around. I would rather suggest saving your money and buying the DVDs of your favorite shows. You could also just go to your local comic book store and you would find the same people there as you would at a Sci-Fi convention.

...since I’ve been to a strictly sci-fi convention. I attended a Doctor Who con back about twenty years ago, and Mars Con about 5 years back. I’m hoping to hit Minnecon this year.

I’ve been to two science-fiction conventions. The first time, I pretty much sat in the movie room and watched movies. Saw Flesh Gordon, a classic. Also played Diplomacy. The second time, this nice lady sat on my lap.
Yes, there is some debauchery at science-fiction conventions. Sex imbued with the mythology of science fiction and fantasy. Everything they say about nerd sex is true, BTW.
These conventions were held 18 years apart, one in Ohio and one in California. I talked briefly with Larry Niven at both conventions. I infer from this that Larry Niven attends all science-fiction conventions held anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere.

It was a Sci-Fi/Fantasy con, and a bunch of my friends said c’mon, it’ll be fun!
It was a horrible time. It was one of the biggest drunkfests I’d ever seen. Every imaginable booze and drugs too. There were many people in various states of undress. It was so full of moral degradation that I was wondering when the fire was going to come down from above, then I remembered that God doesn’t work like that anymore. I’ll never go to another one of these again.
