and willingness to part with $50, I will renew my license. It will be officially too late by my next birthday in April and I’ll be the ultimate procrastinator if I let that happen.

renew license
Turns out in order to renew your license in NC (at least if you’re coming from another state), you need to retake the written test and possibly the road test, if the examiner wants you to. So I’m studying for that presently. There are all these 7.5 ft, 300 ft, 5 seconds, 1/10, etc. figures one generally forgets. I’ll take that tomorrow, methinks.
t-shirt quilt
I’ve mailed in our t-shirts to Campus Quilts, so all that remains is to receive it. I’ll be sure to post a picture!
lose 10 pounds
I’m back to the half way point. I’m not doing anything special – just trying to make sure most of what I eat balanced and healthy and that I do something to prevent myself from being overly sedentary. I’m optimistic. Many of my goals are interrelated. Lose ten pounds / walk my dogs / quit sugar for a month
I attached my recent favorite internet weight loss ad in honor of this goal :) FAIL worthy, I think.
daily walks with the dogs
I’ve been taking them on frequent walks, though not daily. Now that we moved into an apartment, I think it’s more important to step up this goal because they don’t have the luxury of running around our yard (and all of the neighbors’ yards) anymore. Fortunately, there’s a lovely lakeside walking trail behind the apartments. Once we get settled in, I’ll also look up the nearest dog park so they can run around leash free.
ditch TV
I’d gotten into a bad TV habit for a bit. But I’m getting out! Focusing on my 43 books / spend more time in silence goals instead.
zen habits
This is a rather long term goal, but I’ve made major strides with it over the past year. Along these lines, I’ve been streamlining my 43 goals. I’ve been working at marking them off without adding new ones, unless they were necessary, allowing for simplicity and focus.

Lastly, Murris is in Chicago! If you want to host Murris sometime this year, let me know!

I am now the proud owner of a valid license. I waited four months lol but I’ve got it now and I must say, the picture isn’t all that bad. =]

The plan is to renew it this Tuesday, because the DMV isn’t open on Mondays.
kittycatpurr here fishy fishy
but I finally got the replacement license in the mail.
In the photo, I look like a psycho, which is kind of funny.
My license expired, wow, dare I even say it? Two years ago. That is a perfect example of just letting things go and not taking care of business.
So how did this happen? Well, I didn’t even realize it had expired until it had been null for about a year. I guess I didn’t notice because I never had to look at my license—I wasn’t pulled over for a ticket, I wasn’t asked for an ID when I bought stuff, I don’t use checks, etc. Then last year when I was filing my taxes I was asked for an ID and that’s when I realized I’d let it lapse. I don’t remember getting a renewal notice from the DMV, but it’s not their responsibility, it’s mine to keep up with such things.
Another year has passed because it seems like we’ve been living in crisis mode month after month. As soon as things calmed down and evened out, something else would pop up. This stuff took priority over other things, like making doctor’s appointments and getting my license renewed. When I finally went to get my license renewed I didn’t have proper documentation because, I found out, if it’s been expired for more than a year they require more “proof of legal presence” since the 9/11 laws passed. That was a setback because I didn’t have a copy of my birth certificate handy—the last time I saw it was in 2003 in a red folder that held some of our important paperwork. The whole thing went missing, we don’t think it was lost but probably misplaced by someone who was helping us do Spring cleaning.
We still haven’t found it. And there’s another point—we should have ordered replacements ASAP. But we didn’t. We’ve been WAY too lax about this sort of stuff. And so it’s no wonder that it eventually bit me in the ass!
I now have a new, certified copy of my birth certificate as well as the other paperwork I need. I was told I have to take the tests again—the computer test AND the driving test. Geez. It’s been 16 years since I did that, so I’m brushing up by reading the study booklet they gave me.
I’m making this goal a priority because I’ve been SO worried about getting caught driving without a license (they recently increased the fines to a WHOPPING amount) so I don’t usually do it unless it’s a have-to sort of situation. Not having independent transportation is a real lifestyle cramp and it’s not an ideal situation for so many reasons!
Melissa Maples has hit the ground running.
I need to get this done pretty quickly, as it expires on my birthday, and that’s next month.
I got ‘em renewed around July 24th or the 25th of 2008. Only took me about 4.5 months. lol. I accomplished this though. WOO-HOO.
