It expired on March 14. EEK!

but I finally got the replacement license in the mail.
In the photo, I look like a psycho, which is kind of funny.
My license expired, wow, dare I even say it? Two years ago. That is a perfect example of just letting things go and not taking care of business.
So how did this happen? Well, I didn’t even realize it had expired until it had been null for about a year. I guess I didn’t notice because I never had to look at my license—I wasn’t pulled over for a ticket, I wasn’t asked for an ID when I bought stuff, I don’t use checks, etc. Then last year when I was filing my taxes I was asked for an ID and that’s when I realized I’d let it lapse. I don’t remember getting a renewal notice from the DMV, but it’s not their responsibility, it’s mine to keep up with such things.
Another year has passed because it seems like we’ve been living in crisis mode month after month. As soon as things calmed down and evened out, something else would pop up. This stuff took priority over other things, like making doctor’s appointments and getting my license renewed. When I finally went to get my license renewed I didn’t have proper documentation because, I found out, if it’s been expired for more than a year they require more “proof of legal presence” since the 9/11 laws passed. That was a setback because I didn’t have a copy of my birth certificate handy—the last time I saw it was in 2003 in a red folder that held some of our important paperwork. The whole thing went missing, we don’t think it was lost but probably misplaced by someone who was helping us do Spring cleaning.
We still haven’t found it. And there’s another point—we should have ordered replacements ASAP. But we didn’t. We’ve been WAY too lax about this sort of stuff. And so it’s no wonder that it eventually bit me in the ass!
I now have a new, certified copy of my birth certificate as well as the other paperwork I need. I was told I have to take the tests again—the computer test AND the driving test. Geez. It’s been 16 years since I did that, so I’m brushing up by reading the study booklet they gave me.
I’m making this goal a priority because I’ve been SO worried about getting caught driving without a license (they recently increased the fines to a WHOPPING amount) so I don’t usually do it unless it’s a have-to sort of situation. Not having independent transportation is a real lifestyle cramp and it’s not an ideal situation for so many reasons!
Melissa Maples has hit the ground running.
I need to get this done pretty quickly, as it expires on my birthday, and that’s next month.
I got ‘em renewed around July 24th or the 25th of 2008. Only took me about 4.5 months. lol. I accomplished this though. WOO-HOO.
Quest for Folly is not an island...or a man.
I let my license lapse and failed to renew it before I was required to take the actual driving bit again. I’m more nervous now than I was at 16…it’s just plain silly.

Won’t have to worry about this again until 2018. Wonder if I’ll still be hanging around 43T when the time comes, ticking off this same goal again.

My license expires on the 20th of June. Luckily, the photo is still valid until 2011, so I don’t need to organise another one. It took me a while to work out why this was so, but then I remembered I’d had another photo taken when I got my motorcycle license.
The new license will go to my parent’s place back in Aus’, and my mother’s very kindly offered to send it over to me, via registered mail. Thanks, mum.
