Play guitar in public

A boyfriend took me there for a weekend and it was such a laid-back atmosphere that I got over my stage fright & was able to play & sing John Prine’s Angel from Montgomery… One of the old men who lived nearby said he hadn’t heard anybody sing with such soul since a young lady named Janis Joplin, but I’m thinking he was just being nice because he saw how hard it was for me to open up at first…

but get the stage fright. It comes from playing AND singing—RIGHT! I can play instruments in front of people, but playing and singing songs I write that are SOOOO deep, dark, and personal. Plus they might get me in trouble if I do not change the names to protect the guilty!

Seriously, I am jealous of all of you who do it so well. I want to be up there!

Today my friends and I sat at the court house and I played, it was nice, then it started raining, and it was nicer.

I imagine George had an easier time than Paul or John (I’m talking Beatles here, people) since he just played for the most part, and sang backup occasionally. Would that make it easier for you to start? do you have (can you MAKE) an opportunity to play with someone else who will be the star, while you play the part of the window thru which the audience sees the star?

i seen some talentless, unconfident mofoes at some crappy concerts, and at least twice i was such a mofo. but the audience always listened politely and clapped magnanimously. Maybe here in philly, the rock scene is more forgiving, even if only four of us dance. Certainly more forgiving than amateur nite at the apollo. Jeez, i’d be lucky i don’t get my left hand chopped off by those angry showgoers.

I want to overcome stage fright but the only time I have stage fright is when I am going to sing and play the guitar. This happens even though I want to play an open mic or something similar desperatly. Why does this happen?
