Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

user1402564758Email a Banana

Because I wanted to email a banana, I created the web-app sendabanana.com. Just add the to- and from email address, add a message, press the send a banana button, and voila! 6 months ago

horsiegirl907Officially Sent!

Did this last night before I went to a masquerade dance. Walked out of my car in my dress and heels, put the banana in the post box, and then laughed as everyone stared at me in the BiLo parking lot. Good times… 10 months ago

Kaylee ThompsonYep, I really did this!

I saw this goal on someone else’s list, and I just had to add it to mine. We should all have something crazy on our lists :D

Sneaking the fruit into the mailbox was fun. (Sneaking around is always fun.) Writing the address and putting the stamps on took some creativity. And lots of tape.

I printed the address neatly and stuck on $5 worth of stamps, as well as a note to the postman to please deliver it. “Dear Canada Post, I realize this is unusual, but…” The note made me feel kind of silly, but I think the fate of my banana depends on weather or not the postman has a sense of humor, and being polite can’t hurt.

I wanted it to be a surprise, but I got impatient and asked my friend if anything unusual had happened. He said no, and I had to tell him that I had mailed a banana. It wasn’t delivered (yet!), but we had fun talking about it.

It took a week to get there (probably because I didn’t include a postal code) and by that time the banana was completely black. Not what I had intended.

Well, it was a learning experience. Next time:
  1. Be sure to include a postal code!
  2. Send a banana that’s still green, so it will be a nice yellow when it arrives.
  3. Mail it on a Monday, so it has 5 consecutive workdays to travel. 21 months ago
