binge/crash 17 months ago

Knowing myself, and knowing my psychology, not that i won’t endeavour to change it one day, but today the 26th of my ‘no refined sugar month’ marks the 10 pound mark of weight gain.
It seems that i am supplementing or overoutdoing myself somehow to make up for the missing calories.

So, i’m going to keep in mind the feeling of sugar, the new sensation (that i never noticed before) of sugar actually making my body ‘buzz’ and be much more careful about what i consume… but this whole ‘diet restriction thing’ is not medical and its not helping me feel good about myself.
So see ya goal, and thanks for the lesson.

terrible day buttertart 17 months ago

I was tired as all fuck, deflated from social and family events, and i crashed my bike.

It was only two o’clock and i was working until nine, i could feel myself falling asleep standing up.

I considered all my options, and then i did it, i binged on a buttertart.
Something i shouldn’t really have, and won’t be able to eat soon (because i’m leaving canada).

It was divine and daring and combined with a large americano, kept me alert enough not to staple my own finger until the end of the day.

Sugar has its place, but i’m finding that in general, i like it better in other people’s diets.

I feel pretty good lately, and i’m not all ‘craving-y’ like i can get.

This was my sugar confession, and now i’m going back to
Keeping the faith.

The questionable nature of coke zero. 18 months ago

That may be my one ‘faux pas’ this week on the refined sugar front.

Its not ‘sugar’ but there is certainly aspertame and a host of other ‘stuff’ in there… it was a split second fast food decision (wendy’s, baked potato + spicy chicken sandwich + ????) and i liked it, but i could only drink half the regular size anyway.

I’ve managed pretty well so far at fending off ‘cravings’ with fruit, good fats/carbs, honey sweetened yogurt and a steady availability of nuts and the occasional piece of dark chocolate. I can’t beleive its been more than a week since i cut it out. It doesn’t feel that big of a deal.

I got a chocolate muffin yesterday that was sweetned with applesauce, and i must say, it was mighty fine.

I’ll be looking up recipies for that tonite.

I don’t know how ‘different’ i actually feel, but i feel remarkably ‘in control’ of my diet which is both novel and lovely.

WOAH MAN! 18 months ago

Do i EVER have to eat a LOT now to avoid the dizzy-hungry-cranky spells that come along with having NO IDEA what constitutes enough calories when i’m not consuming heavy baked goods and chocolate bars all the time.

Its sort of comic actually… i am full a lot, but i find myself sort of ‘calorically challenged’.

I’ve taken to eating a good quantity of nuts and fruit (especially at work) just to get myself through the day.

Also;

WHO NEEDS SUGAR WHEN YOU HAVE FLAVOUR!

I bought a deliciously fresh baguette and very nice tomatoes and proscuitto last night to make a sanwhich with for lunch and i looked forward to it all morning. it was SO delicious!

There is cinnamon, and fresh fruit, and cheese and even meats that i’ve sort of eaten without tasting.

I hope this gets better.

I hear smokers feel this way when they quit smoking after a long time, i’m just so animated by food these days.

I think i’ll make a lentil pilaf tomorow for dinner.

I'm getting wise to you,..... Glucose!!! 18 months ago

I’m super tired of my binge/abstain relationship to sugar and have a SOLUTION!

I’m going to quit cold turkey… (as vigilantly as i can within my own limits of undefined realism.)

Next month, month of June, i’m going to absolutely stop eating refined sugar as often as i can:

No:
Pop
Candy
Chocolate
Licorice
Ice Cream
Gelato
Cookies
Cakes
Mocha’s
Cupcakes
or other sweets

I’m going to binge on things that are marginally more healthy for me and get my sweet kick from

Fruit
100% Juices
Honey (local wildflower to help with my allergies)
and flavored teas such as vanilla.

Its going to be hard, but i can TOTALLY do it.

I have a sugar addiction.

I am tired of feeling wuzzy and tired and spacey from the kick

I’m tired of getting sugar high to make my day interesting.

My grandmother and my father have/had diabetes, its in my family and the likelyhood that i’ll have problems later on is high especially considering the scale of my sweet tooth! I’m going to cut those chances.

It does a much bigger number on my mindspace than i would like to admit, but here i am, admitting it.

I’ve actively cut down on the high fructose corn syrup from my foods and don’t use refined white table sugar. I recently read a fitness article and realized there is so much more sugar I’ll have to cut out, so have been doing this gradually.

Feelin Good about this... 3 years ago

I have really cut down on my sweet-snacking foods. In the last four weeks, I have only induldged in some fine chocolates with my Mom in Alaska and my husband when I returned, before he went on his tour. Today, I ordered a cafĂ© mocha at a coffee shop and threw it out, I just couldn’t drink it. That feeling was great and was a first since I have cut out refined sugar. I think following a more Ayurvedic diet has cut those sugar cravings completely. Yeah for the Vata dosha!

Doing Well! 3 years ago

In the last week, I have been sticking to my no sugar rule pretty well. I have had sweet things, but without refined sugar. For example, I had a brown rice crispy bar made with brown rice syrup instead of marshmallowy crap. I did, however, enjoy a bubble tea yesterday and those things are pretty thick with all different kinds of sugar. If I don’t have it in the house, I tend not to consume it because it’s not there.
