I donated blood 2 months after my super sweet sixteenth cos my Mum always wanted me to and cos of the Victorian Bush Fires. The Red Cross make you feel like a hero! It was AWESOME and makes you feel special it doesn’t hurt at all! Just eat heaps and drink heaps and rest sfterwards. DON”T GO TO WORK like I did and nearly fainted….but its all good!!!Now i just have to get around to doing it again!

i’m not too sure about this one anymore. had an appointment yesterday, and i didn’t go… the prospect of doing that again kinda freaks me out… and not in a “oh that’s so exciting and scary i must do it!” but in a “ugh, i feel queezy just thinking of my body running on less blood than normal!”. I may be postponing this one until further notice…

ok, so donating blood has traumatized me since last July, when I had to get rushed to the hospital (the same hospital i had donated at!) after i practically passed out in the street from heat exhaustion and probably not getting enough fluids after donating. it was an overall traumatizing experience, made more so by the fact that my insurance at the time didn’t cover the ambulance bill of $800 (which was as embarrassing event in and of itself… after i practically passed out TWO BLOCKS from the hospital, an ambulance was called by a worried passerby to drive me those TWO BLOCKS back to the hospital! oh boy…). After fretting about paying, in essence, $800 to for having donated blood, i received a call from the hospital saying that the Medicaid had footed the bill upon the hospital contacting them for a reimbursement. yay! i didn’t end up having to pay anything!
so, as a token of thanks to the universe and medicaid for footing the bill, i told myself i’d have to donate again… even though it was an awful experience. that said (drumroll please),
I’ve got an appointment May 4th at 2pm to donate blood!
hopefully i wont pass out this time! hopefully i can nix this one off my list very soon!! =D

My blood tye is universal and donating blood was one of the few ways I helped out the community. This, although there really is no physical activity, sort of community service is essential and one of the greatest duties someone can do.

Today I went to a local blood drive and donated. I’ve been meaning to do this for years so I’m glad I finally did. I almost passed out during the car ride home (my boyfriend drove me), which was nice… It’s been a couple of hours since and I still feel shitty. I just have to keep drinking fluids I guess… It’s a good excuse to eat sweets which is nice!

I totatly planned on donating blood today at 6:00, so I did some research online for tips and read that you can’t drink alcohol within 48 hours before donating. Well stupid me got pretty darn drizunk last night not even thinking that it would effect me donating blood. So not going to happen for awhile…

Another 500ml
There was a blood drive in town today. I’d signed up for it at the last one (where I was refused due to elevated blood pressure that day). Today my blood pressure was fine so I was able to donate again. Didn’t take that long either, was in and out within an hour.
Next time for me to donate will be July 10th.
