2 down 3 to go... 2 years ago

My friend Jackie had been wanting me to read one of her books by Lynn Flewelling, and even though I tried with one of her books, Luck in the Shadows, over a year later it was clear I wasn’t going to get through it.

Recently she had me try a different book of hers, The Bone Doll’s Twin. Once I was able to dedicate more time to reading, I really got into it.

It was a very fun read, and incredibly engrossing, which is something because it’s usually really difficult for me to get into high fantasy when it comes to books. And only in a few weeks, I finished it, asking my friend if I could borrow the second book.

The author did a terrific job of writing her characters. They are very real, and I especially liked how she was able to subtly write from different character perspectives, never forgetting how one character’s perspective can skew the “reality” of events in the story.

There was so much happening at the end of this book, I’m already a good two chapters in the second :)

I am happy to say I am enjoying myself :P

1 down 4 to go... 2 years ago

I’ve never been in the habit of reading books on a regular basis, but I’m really starting to make a difference in my habits!

I just finished Money A Memoir by Liz Perle, an insightful book I got for Christmas. I finished it in a little over a month, an experience that usually takes me several months to complete. To me, that’s progress :D

I have 4 more books to read to reach my goal of reading 5 books before next year.

    Progress! 3 years ago

I’ve finished reading Haruki Murakami’s Kafka on the Shore, and Douglas Coupland’s Girlfriend in a Coma AND Eleanor Rigby.

I might have to pause this as I start reading material for uni, though.

I want to do this because I don’t think saying “Read more” is that good an aim, because I’m pants at judging whether I’ve actually Read More or not. Setting a goal of 5 seems good, because that’s one a month. This totally doesn’t include the book I’m reading now, but it can include Girlfriend in a Coma, which I want to read by the end of this month.

Progress at least 3 years ago

So it looks like I’m going to have to give this one up – unless I read non-stop for the next day! But I’ve made progress, and am definately inspired to read again. Definately worth having as a goal, even if i didn’t quite make it!

On the train home to my parent’s house i finished ‘Ten Big Ones’ by Janet Evanovich. It was a fun book – I really liked it! I’m seriously doubting I’m going to reach this goal – but hey, if textbooks and magazines counted I’d definately be there!

I’ve been so caught up with college this goal has slipped down in my priorities. Not sure if I’ll make it by the end of the year, but I really want to get some quality reading done over my break.
