finish my incomplete

I actually had two, and I finished the one I really wanted to finish. As for the other, I may just retake the class, because I never did a whole lot for it in the first place.

I finished a5, a6, and a7 pretty easily, except that I really wanted to do that extra-credit problem: write a Scheme program to rewrite Scheme programs in continuation-passing style. I spent about a week and a half on that—more than half of my vacation. Pretty much everywhere I went in San Francisco, I got out my laptop and worked some more on that little program. Finally got it complete and correct.

There wasn’t much time left for the remaining three problems, a10, a11, and a12. They were my first attempt at relational programming, so I was a little worried that they might be time-consuming. I ended up doing the last two at Harbin Hot Springs, but they all came easily.

Finished everything by the deadline, and got an A-.

I became really sick last semester (bipolar disorder) and I have NO GRADES done in my Greek Mythology class. My prof gave me an incomplete due to pity/he knows that I already know half of the information from prior reading/I took the class and I DON’T NEED IT TO GRADUATE (aka it’s foder for my art and a personal interest). But I am afraid. I only have a month of school left and I have nothing done, because of being crazy/an art show I helped plan. I mean I know extra stuff looks really good on transcripts for art school entrance, but grades are grades. Any F looks bad. I am so scared that I have canceled multiple exams that I could of atleast made a low B in. I have multiple sets of notes FOR THE SAME INFORMATION, because I keep studying and stopping and then I forget everything. I know the myths, but it’s just the theories of interpretation/historical dates/author information (logistical stuff) that I am unsure of. I am at Chapters…I am going to make note cards…NOW!

Here’s what I need to do before the next semester to finish my Incomplete in Programming Languages:

a5 Redo. I hadn’t fully understood “continuation” when I did it the first time.

a6 Redo. I hadn’t fully understood “data-structural representation of a continuation” when I did it the first time. Also, I tried writing an automated CPSer for extra credit the first time, but it was awfully crude because I didn’t quite “get” continuation-passing style. I might fix that up, but it’s not top priority.

a7 I gave up on this one early in the semester, because I spent six hours on it and still hadn’t unscrambled two of the functions. Now that I have a better understanding of it, I did both of them while I was on the plane. Now there’s just relatively easy stuff left to go.

a10 An introduction to relational programming. Not trivial.

a11 “Your task is to extend the type inferencer presented in lecture to handle the lambda calculus.”

a12 Implement a certain relational-programming construct using continuations.

Wow…this turned into a nightmare – I spent way too much time worrying about writing the paper for this class, when my prof kept TELLING me she would pass me almost no matter what. But my perfectionist self just couldn’t accept that. But it is done now, and I GRADUATED!

I swore I’d never take another incomplete, but having a baby in the middle semester sort of screwed up my student mojo. The class is an independent study and is not a big deal, but I am determined to get it done soon so I don’t drag it out over the entire summer.

Never. I will. Never. Graduate. Why did I go to grad school again?

And, to make things worse, I’m not gonna do what I said my consequences would be. Because things at work are hugely busy, and staying home to do the paper would be a colossaly bad move instead of the semi-bad move I thought it would be. So, I”ll just press on…

I am at the coffee shop working on my incomplete right now. Luckily, I have today off work due to Veteran’s Day. I keep having to shift my thesis around as I uncover other facts in my research, but I FINALLY have a really solid thesis, outline, and a few paragraphs. I think I should be able to just plug stuff in, now, so it should go pretty fast. But I just have to DO it. I’m running out of time….

The long paper needs to be about 15 pages. So I need to be writing almost two pages per day to make this goal happen by the challenge date. I’m going to write two full pages today. No matter what. I’ll report back later. This 43 things site will keep me accountable!
