How to get a pet lizard

How I did it: I first decided I wanted to get a Collared Lizard, but I then found out that they usually are priced at $60 each. I wasn't ready to spend that much on my first lizard. I did research on what kind of lizards are fun to have around but don't cost that much. Green Anoles cost about $10 at most pet stores, and they're quite active once they get used to their new environment. I got a medium sized tank so he's nice and comfortable, a plant that he can lick water drops off of and hide in, a little dome for him to cool off in, and a dish where I put lettuce and carrots (in addition to the crickets he eats). You'll need a spray bottle to spray the plant with (it doesn't matter if the plant is real or not) so he has adequate water, and some crickets (they eat about 4 a day). Lizards are fun and rewarding pets.
Lessons & tips: Read up on your lizard!! This cannot be stressed enough, as you need to know the right temperature and humidity level for the tank and what they eat and how to care for them. If you want your lizard to live a good life, you must read informative books about them and do as they say, keeping your pet comfortable and happy.
Resources: Pet stores sometimes can give you free pamphlets on lizard care, and you can also sometimes buy larger books, with more detailed information. The lizard section of [about.com] can be a lifesaver as well, and not just figuratively. Lizards require specific temperatures and humidity levels.

I didn’t buy a pet lizard, we just have one that hangs around in our backyard. It’s a bluetongue. I have a feeling there are actually dozens of them that show up at different times, but I have never seen more than one at once so I will say there is only one.
