Lia is packing for college.
French for me is kind of like a forgotten art. I don’t listen to French things, I don’t read French scripture, and I haven’t taken French in years. But at the same time, French is a language I don’t want to lose. It is very beautiful in my opinion!
Steps to retaining my French:
1.) Read French books!
This might be a project within itself, but track down some French books to read. Le Petit Prince is a good place to start. As you read, make a list of nouns you aren’t aware of. Track down stories you love and would like to read over in the French language (like Lolita, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest or Skellig) depending on difficulty.
2.) Do French exercises in odd places!
The break room at work or on the train are good places to chill, but they can also be good places to practice French! By doing activities such as listening to French music or doing French exercises out of your AP French book can boost your French in small amounts of time!
3.) Watch shows and movies with French subtitles!
I am a fan of anime, thus I usually stream shows in Japanese with English subtitles. From switching to French subtitles, I get to practice both languages at once! This might make the anime experience longer and less enjoyable…but a sacrifice is a sacrifice.
I don’t know when I plan to do these things….this goal is of low priority right now.
