I want to make a few cosmetic modifications to my car as well as some performance enhancements. The overall cosmetic goal is to make it more comfortable, while maintaining a very clean “factory” look, with a few additional highlights. Regarding performance, I am focusing on handling and fuel efficiency.

So far I have installed an armrest (unavailable on US models) imported from Japan, a rear cargo tray, all-weather floor mats to protect the carpet, and a dead pedal. By the end of this year I hope to have a new lighting system installed (matching the blue color of the gauges and providing better interior illumination), tinting, and an overhead storage compartment with map lights (also blue, matching the lighting system). That should complete my list of cosmetic improvements.

Performance wise I am interested in a front sway bar, an intake, possibly lowering springs or coilovers, and exploring exhaust system possibilities. The performance enhancements will take more time, more research, and much more money. The key will be to retain my focus on fuel efficiency and handling, and not get distracted by other performance upgrades. Also I must be very careful about upgrades so as not to void the warranty, which is why I am putting off doing any of them right away. 5 years ago

I have a Nissan 180SX (see photo) which I am doing up slowly. It’s fun but just a little costly, and can get difficult staying within legal regulations. So far:

• Lowered suspension (prior to my purchase), 16” AVS wheels
• Custom painted interior, Autotechnica steering wheel, gear knob

• Cold air intake
