give away books

My house is overflowing with books and once again, as i’ve done three other times in my life, i want to give most of them away and begin again. There is also, of course, the notion that C.S. Lewis talks about, i.e., that the only books we’ll have in heaven are the ones we gave away, so there is an ulterior motive, but presumably heaven will be a place of unlimited bookshelves. Giving them away is not easy, tho’, for i want each and every one to have a good home. They’re not to drop on the doorstep of a library or the Salvation Army in the middle of the night and then wipe my hands of them, strolling away cocky as Pilate. Perhaps LibraryThing could be a place to seek help in this.

This has been inspired by an online group where we each start sending out a book, and other members will pass it on.
I liked this idea, especially because most books are just decoration after you’ve read them.
I’ve started the habit of giving a book to an online friend when I meet them (two so far).
