After travelling 6 hours to get from the Medical Center to Sugarland (we were on our way to San Antonio) we turned around and met up with family who had evacuated from League City at a cousin’s house in Stafford- they travelled 18hours to get to I45N only to meet up with the “parking lot” heading northbound… All 14 of us (and 3 dogs) “HUNKERED DOWN”, cooked up a whole bunch of food, and sat and watched the news. We sustained high winds (a backyard fence blew down) & drizzle. Power remained on and the storm passed… Our neighbors called us last night and told us the power in our hood was turned on so we got up at 5am and came home…We live in a 100-yr flood zone area so we were concerned about Rita flooding us. Our home has a gutter down (it needed to be tacked down better anyway)- otherwise, it was just as we left it… All I can do is Praise Him!

I live between Austin and Houston, and we have yet to get a single drop of rain. All is well in beaukiss, and it’s even looking like a beautiful day.
It looks like we are not in much of any trouble in Austin anymore. We are the major destination of refuge, actually. Good thing to already have bread, water and gas, though. None can be found in the stores.
I have a lot of family around Houston, though. Most are out of the city, but I still worry about those who are still there. I wish the best for everyone. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Sounds like Rita is now a Catigory 4, but I’m not planning on staying out here in my mobile home. They are saying we might be hit with tropical strength winds, but who knows if it changes path after it hits land.
Austin is prone to flooding even in just regular old severe thunderstorms. I really hope that we all make it out of this one okay. But I’m really worried about all of my family in East Texas. I am encouraging them all to come to Austin, so that they can at least be further away from Rita’s path, but I’m also worried about damage here, too … just not as pointedly.
The grocery store was chaos tonight already! There is not one bottle of water or loaf of bread on the shelves. I went to 2 stores and no water. I’m just going to fill up into any containers I can get my hands on with the good ole tap water. We might have power and water out for awhile. I just hope that’s the worst of it and that it won’t turn into what happened with Katrina. Everyone hopes that. Please give Texas your best thoughts and prayers for the coming storm this weekend. The mood out there is a bit tense. I’m going to stay away from grocery stores for awhile! I had enough of that tonight. You can feel how scared everyone is.
