just over two years ago i was training for track and did too many sprints and jumps in the gym which forced me to stop quickly before hitting the wall. this put so much pressure on my shins.. and this is how it all started. i kept running and jumping to train for ringette and kept making it worse. i’ve been going to physio on and off for 2 years. and now i am VERY committed to fixing these once and for all. I took a break from running and jumping for about 3 months, and now i am slowly introducing it into my routine. it is so frustrating because i LOVE running. Now i am stuck biking. I am so thankful that these my shins do not affect my skating, otherwise i would have a very hard time. 21 months ago
I have PT again tomorrow. That is, after my Tempo run in the morning and prior to my recovery run in the evening. And they want me to try an Anti-Gravity Treadmill thing while I’m there. Lots of running tomorrow… 21 months ago
I’ve had them for a year now, ever since I started running cross country and track. The other day I went to a Sports Medicine Doctor and he confirmed that I have bilateral posterior shin splints and sent me off to physical therapy. Now I have to go to that three times a week and do the exercises they gave me 2-3 times a day while icing my legs 3-4 times a day.
I’m happy as long as I can get rid of these shin splints. If I could run without pain… I bet I’d be so much faster. That’s all I really want. It would also be really nice to not have terribly aching legs every day and run on them anyway.
The other day I ran 14 miles and then I ran 6 miles, each mile thirty seconds faster than usual, the next day. The PT told me not to run this Saturday. :( If it’s for the best then very well, but I’m going to have to make up the miles somehow and it’ll be sad missing out on a long run.
Best of luck to everyone. 21 months ago
