dinabeth In love with a very special person
we only have 2 layers – but they are good producers and the eggs are yummy.
Friends here and in Seattle have city chickens. We were able to chicken-sit the 3 ladies in Seattle for a week last year – fresh eggs every day and their very odd antics made it very worthwhile.
So the long-term plan: move back to the Seattle area, to a house with a fenced yard and a tolerant landlord :)
we had a chicken farm when I was a child, and there is just something about the smell of chicken poop that even thirty years later I can recall it with amazing clarity. They are noisy, especially the rooster, and you have to constantly fight to prevent the racoons from stealing the chickens. And to top that off, hens can be downright MEAN. I don’t care that they are small birds, those beaks can leave quite a mark!
