triggered by boredom 1 month ago

even just waiting for the computer or the printer – any 5 minute block – I REALLY need to get serious about this – it just makes me tired and SUCKS time I could use for much more enjoyable activities

it does help to read business magazine articles in the morning while waiting for the computer to boot up

I’ve been thinking maybe a reward system would help…

been playing computer games almost daily. Whenever I get the slightest bit bored I start gaming

Day 11 2 months ago

I had a strong bout of wanting to play games the other day, but I handled it. Honestly, I feel like this has already been a success, even though it hasn’t been 30 days. It’s just been so positive in my life that I don’t even want to go back. I know my desire to game is transient and deleterious to my goals, so I declare this a success and move on to that more difficult time-waster…internet browsing.

Some desire 2 months ago

This is day number 8, and I’ve felt some desire to play games recently, but I’m successfully resisting. This is easier than I thought! I think I might start writing stories about the types of situations I find appealing in games in order to use my desire for the creative.

Day 5 2 months ago

This one is going really well. I feel good about not playing games anymore! I think I might already consider myself successful just because it feels so much better to be a non-gamer. I feel more creative in my work and more focused on school already. I don’t even feel less cool, which I thought I would. After all, which is cooler: playing WOW, or giving my robot the ability to focus its attention?

Gearing up for full day 2 2 months ago

Yay! I got a lot done yesterday and I feel good today. Down with me playing computer games!

Day 0.5 2 months ago

I made it half a day yesterday, and now I’m gearing up for my first full day. I should be really busy today, so that will hopefully help.

Deep breath…

Success Criteria/Small goal 2 months ago

Criteria: When I have gone for 30 days without playing games, AND my time is filled up with other things so I no longer have the desire, I will consider myself successful.

Small goal: rest of the day.

how to quit this? 6 months ago

I’m playing Utopia online and when I don’t do that I’m playing Warcraft III online. Please, tell me what should I do.

March 22, on the last leg of the flight to San Juan, the movie stopped playing and I found Bookworm on the monitor. I didn’t recognize that it’s still a computer game, even though it was Delta’s computer, until after I got frustrated with the quirky responsiveness. Sigh. But vacation was dreamy, the cellphone completely died, and there were not monitors at every seat on the flight home, so temptation didn’t find me. We’ve only been home since the 29th, so I’ve been too busy to be tempted; I’m hoping I’ve broken the cycle at this point.
