cafegroundzeroI'll start a new goal, and work on increasing and testing once a week.
Now I’ll do at least 150. 5 years ago
Now I’ll do at least 150. 5 years ago
I may have to finish them at noon. There’s a small gym by the office. I don’t suppose it would hurt my lunch hour to use some of it building abs.
There’s the 35! I also did other work which did involve abdomen an d obliques, including after work play lifting my toddler up and helping him bounce on the bed repeatedly, while counting.
Time to ramp up the repetitions. New goal: 150 each day, minimum. 5 years ago
And am going to work hard today at my job, ripping up carpet. I can feel my abs are working as well as obliques, back, arms, legs.

.
So I’m trying to do this and also get my abs looking tight. For right now, let me see if I can get a whole week in, then four, then three months. I’ll pen in the objectives in my calendar this time.
Yesterday, 200.
Today, so far forty. 5 years ago
I’m taking a goal setting assessment session mid-afternoon, between morning poetry writing and watching the lad while my wife had the postal interview, and going out again on gypsy taxi duty.
I believe periodic sucking in of the gut helps, if it is rapid and often enough. I’m obsessed with abs, with abs of steel. 6 years ago
But hey, I could use a few more cheers. Tonight I’m going to go for it again. Yesterday I did fifty crunches. Today I did about twenty “lift toddler up and bounce him on bed,” which did seem to work those obliques. And five minutes of hula hoop. Whoo! you should have seen it. Guaranteed to bring at least a smile if not laughs. 6 years ago
“as I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted …”
A phrase made in jest, used when resuming an activity after an enforced
break. In September 1946, Cassandra (William O’Connor) resumed his column
in the Daily Mirror after it had been suspended for the duration of the
Second World War, with:* ‘As I was saying when I was interrupted, it is
a powerful hard thing to please all the people all the time.’* In June
of that same year, announcer Leslie Mitchell is reported to have begun
BBC TV’s resumed transmissions with: ‘As I was saying before I was so
rudely interrupted.’ The phrase sounds as if it might have originated
in music-hall routines of the I DON’T WISH TO KNOW THAT, KINDLY LEAVETHE STAGE type.
Compare A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh (1926): ’”AS – I –
WAS – SAYING,” said Eeyore loudly and sternly, “as I was saying when I
was interrupted by various Loud Sounds, I feel that – ”.’ Fary Luis de
Len, the Spanish poet and religious writer, is believed to have
resumed a lecture at Salamanca University in 1577 with, ‘Dicebamus hesterno
die … [We were saying yesterday].’ He had been in prison for five
years. [courtesy of Collins’ Dictionaries] 6 years ago
a more humane, feasible, efficient immigration policy,
I’ve allowed myself that second shot of tequila, and finished a banana. And I’ve done… 8, 9, 10 isometric abdominals, side to side to work the obliques.
If I do 50 crunches, I’ll reward myself with another shot of tequila.
Here goes! 1,2,3, ...49, 50! Yay! Well, let me do fifty more. 6 years ago
Now I’m combining office work with abdominals. Thank God I can do this in the privacy of my own home(some laughter to myself).
I’ll start out with a thorough and well done set of fifty, and launch into the document search. 6 years ago
It shouldn’t be, should it? Yet I’ve not been able to even fulfill this commitment. But I am not giving up. While I examine the issue(s) involved in fulfilling this goal, I’ll start again with my abdominal workout.
So far, while the computer was booting up, I did:
20 crunches_…....10 side to side swings__25 situps
O.K. This night should include some interesting exercise and listening, since I’m listening to a man, and author, explain the existence of vampires. John Michael Greer is the author of a book, Monsters: an investigative guide, or something like that.
Now, I’ve added another 20 crunches, so I’ve got
20
20+ crunches + 15 s2s (standing)and I “get up!” (out of a supine position)
Now, I was beginning to speculate why it’s so very hard, seemingly, to do this, or to motivate myself to do it. The first conclusion would be that I’m just sorry, as they say here in Georgia. I.e. I’m a lazy, shiftless person. Ooooohhhh… if I hadn’t lived with this problem for a while, that might hurt. But what is it that makes one person lazy, and another person industrious? Mere and sheer willpower?
One thing that I’m feeling now is a great thirst, which demands slacking. So, time for some o.j. I’ll be back shortly.
Now I’ve come back after a few minutes, and added 20 crunches and 25 situps, so I’ve got:
100 crunches__10 side to side swings_25 situps… 6 years ago
I’ll get a little book which will be just for abs.
I’ll do them not only in my house, but on the porch. I’m going to start to go public with this, in an effort to both get myself committed, and to urge others to get in shape too. 6 years ago
20 crunches…
I’m late today, so I’ll spread the others out throughout the day. Have to get out and get busy. 6 years ago
The only abdominal activity I had Saturday was thanks to my lad’s insistance that I play “Stump the dump” which means I lift him up using my legs and feet, and allow him to balance upright on my hands as I lay on my back. It involves some coordination on both our parts, and gets a lot of fun and laughter. He loves gymnastic games! 6 years ago
Broken down:
34 crunches
50 flutter kicks, four count
20 situps 6 years ago
I’ll be adding them with very small breaks in between for writing, and reading. This is one way I get around muscle failure and short attention span. (lol)
Second set 50 flutter kics, four count
End of Wednesday night’s workout. 6 years ago
Yesterday I did about sixty. Yes. Sixty, no less.
But I got my hundred in today, and I still feel tighter for the workout I got on Friday. Feel a whole lot better too. 6 years ago
But I was a slacker over the week end. Time to renew my efforts. I just finished an article to free lance, so this is a good time to have at it again. Right now. Here goes! 6 years ago
Going for at least five hundred today, a “rosary” of abs workouts. Starting my third group of hundred. If necessary, will break up the group into sets, but will do them.
Now for situps. Here goes!
The second set of 33 leaves me breathing hard and with muscle failure in places I didn’t know had gone soft. One more set for a hundred. Stretch, and … ten. Huh. Will have to break this down even smaller. Drink water, stretch and let’s go!
Barely nine. Well, huh, huhh, at least I know I took that to the limit.
To round off that hundred with let’s see, 34 +33 +10 +9 = 86, okay 14 crunches, and then I’ll do a hundred set of crunch variations. (11:54, and temp rising. Done with the third set of hundred. We break for a household chore ). 6 years ago
Starting with flutter kicks. One two three, one two THREE! 6 years ago
And here I go, again.
I’ll do at least a hundred tonight, and then collapse in bed with a Clive Barker book, Imajica.
I’m at the point where the Tower is crumbling, and … oh, I don’t want to totally spoil it for you all. 6 years ago
I just woke up, a little while ago, after a nap after supper. I put in an eleven hour shift, if you count the one hour I clock out for lunch. If not, that’s ten hours of work, but still it’s an eleven hour shift. The day leaves me both physically drained and emotionally charged. I am on my feet constantly during the company clock, and I use much upper body strength to move boxes of varying dimensions, sizes, and weights around. This leaves me rather well endowed physically, but for my midriff.
Tonight I’ve done sixty “flutter-kicks.” I forgot what we called them in the Army. Oh man. Am I developing Alzheimers, or is it the fatigue of my job, or the Prozac I take?
I want to say butterflys but that’s not it, is it?
Let me do some crunches to bring the number up to one hundred.
Ta da! O.K. Now all I’ve got left is six more days to say I have done this. And then I will start over again. 6 years ago
I had intended to start on that goal then, but have done little or nothing to make it real.
I’m going to try again, starting now. There’s ten situps. (sum,10)
Now ten crunches.(20) There. And again, now the situps, but twenty this time. There. (40) Now twenty crunches. (sum, 60)
(Heh, heh. My back makes these funny fart sounds with the varnished pinewood floor.) Now for thirty situps. There, pant, pant. (sum, 90) And polish it off with eight obliques and two crunches, and we have the 100 for tonight.
Tonight will be the start of my coming back. 6 years ago
