I live here. So far its been pretty nice. A bit hot though not much difference from Arizona in the States where I previously lived. Ok I wish there was a cinema here but movies are cheap to buy on dvd so I can do without a cinema or ham. Plus they have beefham here and you really cant tell the difference between the two. Saudis a nice civilized country and it reminds me of Phoenix with a few more restrictions.

Woken up at 4:30 every single morning as prayers are being blared through loudspeakers all over the city. Had to put up with ridiculous amounts of anti-American and anti-Christian propaganda everywhere we went. TVs in the mall declaring that God could not have a son, large men in the visitors bureau offering us $15,000 to convert to Islam. You can go to jail just for having a beer or a piece of bacon in your possession. Constant offers to watch people receive “justice”, i.e. watch people get hands cut off, etc. They bring over ‘indentured servants’ mostly from the Philippines but never release them from contract so they are all really slaves. One of the girls in our group was attacked by the self-appointed religious police (I forget what they call them) for not covering enough of something and they were trying to take her away somewhere. Fortunately, there were more of us than them and they decided not to use the UZIs they were carrying. Rampant public homosexuality (against their own religion) and we watched as several women were beaten in public. Once, there were two Mercedes pulled over and the driver of one went to the trunk and pulled out a whip. We had to leave when he started hitting her because one of the guys wanted to stop it but we didn’t want to have some kind of international incident on our hands. These people are so backwards in their thinking that if you gave them the most advanced weapon on the face of the planet, they would probably just use it as a club. Hands down one of the scariest and worst places on planet earth.

Free the women and slaves and nuke the place!

As a female, it was very difficult as we ad to wear abayas the entire time, weren’t allowed to swim or use any fitness facilities in the hotel (and it was the Four Seasons). I have a friend there, however, and she arranged for a desert trip with some of her friends. This was an amazing experience as we hiked into a cave where there is a subterrainean lake to swin in!

‘Peace be with you!’ is what it means. I know a few words, but not much. I’d love to travel to the Rub Al Khali (The Empty Quarter) on either horse or camel back. My favourite breed of horse is the Arab. They’re SO BEAUTIFUL!!! The elegance, the graefulness, the stamina and speed…!!
