Margaret is going to do this. This time, she has the drive.
Ironic indeed.
How I did it: My boyfriend and I had broken up just a couple days before and like many people after a break-up I typically like to do something empowering like cut off my hair or getting a piercing or something-but I had cut my hair off just a month before for funsies and I am in the middle of a production so I cannot get a piercing or a tattoo-so I decided to slam.
Lessons & tips: I kind of wish I had decided to do it sooner so that I could've polished my performance a little more-but considering I tied for 3rd in my very first go I'm not THAT mad.
the joy of sharing your thoughts, grabbing your audience, and working hard to keep them with you. I’ve never felt more alive.
i competed and read a piece about asian stereotypes and everybody loved it!

I enjoy doing poetry slams, although it’s been awhile since I’ve taken the time to do them. If anybody wants information about slams, I’m glad to answer questions.
I’d LOVE to do this. I’d never even thought about it before, but writing is my life.
However, somehow, I don’t feel that I’d have the courage to step up and read my work. I’m very particular about who reads it anyway.
I’m going to an open mic tomorrow night, and I think I’m going to pick a poem to read…
it’s not a slam, but it’s a big step.
This was an amazing experience. I got to hear some amazing poetry and it was really just a great atmosphere. I got 2nd place!!
