Walking back from the pub to the campsite… and something big scurried across the path, right in front of us! Badger!
Saw another one the next night too. I guess they weren’t too afraid of humans.

Long John Silvie is home and hopping mad!!
...but I can’t tell you where as some less scrupulous folks come out with dogs and dig them out for so called “entertainment”. Even so they are a fairly rare sighting as they only come out at night and are very shy, however they do leave a lot of “Badger evidence” around. Beautiful creatures. Love seeing them around.
I was out running near the Hampshire coast a little after dusk and I heard a scuttling noise of what sounded like claws on tarmac and there he (or she) was. They’re a lot faster than they look!

I saw one at some sort of roadside stop when I was a little kid. I was really excited about it, but it was scary and sad. Big claws. It didn’t like to come out of its burrow, as I recall. For some reason, I thought I was going to get to pet it, but it was in no way pettable! I am pretty sure this was on our trip to Yellowstone National Park about a billion and seven years ago.
But I would encourage you to see for yourself, at a safe distance. I love seeing wild animals.
Photo from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Apparently badgers are amongst the products of Illiniois.
Can you beleive it… I work out in the country and I do night shifts sometimes. we are regularly visited by ‘Clare’ (named by one of the residents). She is a cheeky blighter- she comes right up to the glass doors and has a good old look inside. we feed her scraps as she helps herself to the bin bags anyhow.
as roadkill a few times.
Please note that British badgers are different from American badgers, being much cuter. Still give you a nasty bite though.
