How I did it: I have always been painfully shy so public speaking was torture... and for those watching my awkward presentations it must have been awful! However I knew I had to get over it and doing a course at university presented the perfect opportunity. It took time and it was not easy - there is no quick route to getting over this fear. But with dedication you can do it.I'm still not perfect (and I prefer it if I… Read how I did it…

How I did it: I took two years of Business Class and Drama Class. Business class, both of which taught me to speak in front of an audience. Drama class helped me get over shyness, while business class taught me how to present business negotiations. Read how I did it…

How I did it: Went to a conference in another city with a group from class...and when it came to the interactive session we were asked to form groups and speak on different subjects...the leader of my group was a shy person and could barely get himself heard, so i just swallowed my fear and took control: got people to give points and when we had decided what we wanted to say...i used reverse psychology to get myself elected as the speaker of the group.… Read how I did it…

How I did it: I took a 1st year Communications class at my university... COMM 150, they call it there. (Which was why it took 4 months) It's a semester long course, and you really learn how to prepare yourself for speeches, how to be open with others, as well as becoming friends with the people in the class. I am glad that the class was only 30 people, so it wasn't overwhelming at all. (Since most college classes are in huge lecture halls and such). Th… Read how I did it…

I think… in structured settings, at least… I may be getting somewhere… THANK GOD.
One thing I have learned: I need to know what I’m speaking about inside and out to pull it off.
I freak out when I have to make a class speech or something. Even in front of my friends. I want to be able to walk in front of the class and give a great presentation for once.

I have completed a Speech Craft course that was provided by my employer. In about 6 weeks I have to give a short speech to a small group that includes my regional and state manager. After that is completed I will consider this goal complete, while there is still much room for improvement. I think it would be a good idea o back this experience up with further development in Toast Masters.
Some people view Public Speaking worse than death itself.
I have never had that type of challenge but I did sweat alot when I first attempted it and after awhile through repitition of talking to myself and doing self talk before performing I was able to manage my fear.
Some people may disagree but I believe for the most part you will always have some type of fear when speaking in front of people especially when you are talking about a subject that is controversial. It is all in the way you manage your fear.
You have to remember the people in the audience automatically respect you just for the fact you are putting yourself in the light. There are not a lot of people in the audience that would do the same as you. The fact that you are willing to speak to a group gives you an automatic level of respect and trust in a group.
The fear is always – “What if they laugh at me because I screw up” -“What if I freeze when I get in front of people” – “What if I don’t sound good or look good.”
Before you go on see yourself as already successful, pretend you are in the audience and everyone is wowed by your speech. Seeing yourself as already successfully speaking will increase your confidence drastically.
Once you are there pick a spot at the back of the room on the wall and talk to that spot. Shift your head from side to side focusing on that wall until you become comfortable, don’t make eye contact with anyone until you have some experience under your belt. By staring at the wall and moving your head side to side along that wall, will keep you focused and on task. People will think you are in fact looking at them but the funniest part of all is no one will know – only you.

Hey Guys! Do you know about this organisation called Toastmater? It is like a club, where people get together an perform speeches and gives feedback in order to improve your communication and public speaking skills. I am going to try it this year since I heard it was very effective. There are toastmaster clubs everywhere around the globe. Go check it out at toastmaster.org
If someone has tried it before, let me know how it was, please!

I’m starting college in a few days, and I signed up for a class that requires a lot of public speaking. Hopefully this will help.
