Finished Exodus 14.
How I did it: I started with Gospel of John forward and read two chapters a night. My first time through I didn't dig deep, I just read. The second time I tore it apart. I have read it 4 times cover to cover now and will continue to do so until I leave this world because I learn something new everytime.
Lessons & tips: If you start with Genesis, you get bogged down in the begats. These will not become important to you yet, so I recommend starting elsewhere such as John, most people I know who had success started there and read two chapters a night (or day). The first time I just read and did not get bogged down in translation, interpretation and I kept an open mind so that I could just know what information was there and how to access it. On the second time around I began to concern myself with these things.
Resources: My pastor. He was (God rest his soul) a very kind, patient and EXTREMELY education person. I did this the way I did it on his advice. Most of his congregation and read the bible cover to cover from 1 to 20 times with success. The second time, he helped me to make sense of it.

Genesis 27. So far an easy read. But I know what looms…

I’m planning to read the entire Bible, in chronological order (i.e. the “story” from beginning to end, not just cover to cover).
I did this once, when I was at uni, and it was very cool- it helped me to see the Bible as a whole, not just lots of little stories (Biblical Theology anyone?).
I’ve decided to do it again… this time, from The Living Translation, which I’ve not read before. I started on the 1st of January, 2009…

It’s so BORING. I love learning it and applying to my life, but I do not want to read it. I think I would like to go to a church that has some sort of small group three or four times a week. We’d get a section to read and then go talk about it on whatever day it was we’d normally go. You know, talk about how it applys to our life and how we can improve blah blah blah. That would be fun. It’s easier and more fufilling when I can talk about my faith and all that other stuff with other people.

have gotten so far behind on this goal. I have to decide if I want to give up the goal, or if I keep it, how to continue.
