organization and I are not friends!!! 2 months ago

Oh my gosh, this might be my biggest problem yet. Why, just today, I lost my cell phone in a rollar skating rink. A week ago, I lost my wallet with everything that matters in it. I cleaned my room of garbage about a month ago and 3 gasrbage bags full of paper and clothing tags and what not are still sitting by my bedroom door. My locker at school had to be pried open with a screwdriver because I closed THREE sweaters with my binders shoved all over the place in the door by accident! It’s gross and embaressing, but the problem is my life is so hectic and busy, it doesn’t really matter if everything is in it’s place or not. I just take what I need, nothing more or less, and go. Everyday. And with school starting again, it is quite crucial I get started.. like the many other times I’ve picked everything up and put it back where it belongs and some how it ended up in my bathroom sink! hahaha wish you and I lots of luck!

friday, august 14, 2009 - way too broad 2 months ago

i realized that the goal of “becoming more organized” is way too broad. so i’m going to start specifically with certain goals and build up from there. i’ve got so far to go that it’s like walking until east meets west.

today i am not going to sit on the computer all day playing around. i am going to:

1. Get all the clothes in my room hung up.
2. Get both suitcases unpacked.
3. Wash clothes.
4. Load dishwasher.

this is the bare minimum. hopefully will do more. will report on my progress later.

time now – noon:

well, as usual life got in the way and i have blown the entire day. time is now 7:43 pm and i haven’t done much at all.

I’ve almost finished with the cleaning phase of this! Once I finish that, I’ll need a few days to adjust to my organization and then I can consider this goal completed!!

I am pretty organized, I find a place to keep anything and everything. But I would like to make sure things are filed, learn what to keep and what to toss, and stop misplacing things!

On my way... 4 months ago

I finished high school this year and am moving out in a few months, so now is a great time to get more organized. I just finished throwing out all sorts of old papers and crap from my room.

One thing that I’ve realized, and one that I really want to implement in my new house, is the following rule: everything needs to have a place where it belongs. Look around you and see what’s there. Loose screws? Make-up? Thumb drives? Mobile phone chargers? Chances are, there’s a place where you should put it. If there’s not, find or make a place for it. And just so you know, a big bowl full of “stuff” – pens, crumpled receipts, hair ties, loose buttons – does not count as acceptable storage.

my current motivation is the fact that in 1 week, we will have a house full of people, and things need to be clean. i love cleaning, it’s the organizing bit that i’m not so good at… so i took my cleaning energy and threw it at one task: sort through the pile of mail and papers in the living room. and while there is still a pile of papers, albeit smaller, once i clean out my filing box, i can put them away in their right place… hurrah!

i am messy and scatterbrained and i lose things constantly. i lost my ipod 3 times yesterday. i have no idea where my drivers license is. my apartment is cluttered.

i want everything to have a place, and to maintain it on a daily basis.

Make room for kitties 5 months ago

I have recently become the owner (probably soon to be owned by them) of two cats. One is only about four weeks old and the other is about 10 months old. They are currently being fostered at my son and daughter-in-law’s house. I definitely have even more reason now for wanting to become more organized. After all, I don’t want to lose my new kitties in my clutter!

Minimalism with creativity 5 months ago

I’m trying to find some direction to begin working toward this goal. I have a lot of clutter to clear out, but in general I think I need to come up with a plan to do the following in order to become more organized:

1. Remove unwanted items from my house.
2. Room by room, organize the items that remain.
3. Limit/control the quantity of incoming items.
4. Maintain new level of organization.

Overall, I would like to work toward minimalism while still maintaining creative expression.
