I have so much freakign debt its not even funny! I totally have been avoiding creditors calls, not opening their letters, and puttign it off. I want to clear my name, and get my credit score up, but with thtis recession its the last thing on my mind! :(
How to clear my debt
How I did it: with each house we bought we rolled our debt in. Each year brough more large expenses, not to mention 2 cross country moves. Our spending habits didn't help. This year I VOWED to get it under control as I saw we were reaching the limit of our Line of Credit! So my husband started making lunches and bringing them to work. I work from home now so I didn't spend any money. We set up a budget for all our expenses. The biggest thing that helped us was that my husband's company had a program called match and save. he would put in 5% of his salary every paycheque and they would match the amount in the bank account. We cashed it in this year (he did this 2 years ago) and it was a BIG amount. We also got a good tax refund this year. So putting money away really helps and tracking your receipts for tax time helps too! But curbing our spending will help us not use our LOC for monthly spending and only use it for emergencies or "projects" like the deck. I put away 10% of my paycheque into another bank account for vacation money. I am hoping this sticks, but at least this time the debt is gone! now I gotta work on my mortgage. :(
Lessons & tips: put a certain amount away from your paycheque
curb your spending
make a budget and stick to it
pay off your credit cards every month
know what you are spending and on what

Today, i paid off one credit card and i’m really happy about it. We are also proud of the commitment and progress that we’ve made over the past six months. I was hoping i would be able to clear everything off by next month, but looks like it’ll extend into the next month as well. We should still take care to see that we don’t go on adding to it!
