haha i now get words of the day sent to my e-mail and phone.

If you go to dictionary.com you can sign up for a ‘word of the day’ to be sent to your e-mail.
they send you really good words.
the trick is remembering them all.
honestly, the only one I’ve remembered is the first one I got.
that was over a year ago.
it was hobbledehoy: a geeky boy.
so, I’m not doing so well.
whenever I run into a word I don’t know, I always look it up, which is helpful.
I tend to remember those.
Anyway, I hope you are doing better than me!

I love learning new words! 3 months ago

It may sound incredibly nerdy, but I really love learning new words. I even made an icon for a Facebook app that reads, “I have an extensive vocabulary, and I’m not afraid to use it!”

I use a Mac, so I have the “Word of the Day” widget on my computer. I love it. I can almost always find a word on one of the six or so word-a-day sites it uses, so it’s fun.

Yahoo! Education is the worst, though. It’s supposedly aimed at college and grad school students, but I think the average high school student should be at least a little familiar with nearly every word they choose.

Today’s word of choice is from Wordsmith.org: cacography.

That’s “bad handwriting” or “incorrect spelling,” which I am subjected to every day. At least now I have an impressive-sounding word for it.

sometimes 8 months ago

sometimes, the people i’m around make me feel dumb. i understand that many people excel in one or the other sort of thing and my thing is animals. i don’t know much about the law, or about politics, or about history… so maybe if i use bigger words, sometimes people won’t look at me like i’m retarded for not caring so much about things that i’m not interested in.

Thank you Dan Brown!

I’ve found that keeping a notepad about me when reading or watching intelligent TV comes in handy for jotting down any words I don’t know, typing ‘define:’ followed by a word into Google shows up definitions for that word, e.g: define:extemporaneously.
