We have tickets for Mexico!
Still haven’t decided what to do on the actual day. Something meaningful I hope.
How I did it: Boyfriend and I looked around for inexpensive flights and picked the cheapest international flight that corresponded to the dates we needed. We ended up in Cancun and even scored a free place to stay!
We took a few side trip and on the day of my birthday we traveled to a nicer hotel in another town and spent the whole day on the beach. It was bliss. And we ate a fancy dinner where the wait staff totally ignored us and didn't ever give me a chance to order a second margarita, being ignored in a fancy place oddly made me feel young. ;)
Also, on the trip but not on my birthday, I faced one (four actually) of my hugest fears. I went snorkling! Which involves putting your face in the water! In deep water! And road in the little boat! And jumped out of the boat into deep water! Of course there was a life jacket involved, but that doesn't make it any less accomplished. Also we went swimming in a cenote and I was able to rent a life vest there, I was so happy they rented them! And I swam in a hotel pool, but that isn't really any big deal because I'm comfortable enough in pools, even though it was the first time in one in years.

We weren’t able to get a reservation in the grand canyon. So it’s back to brainstorming.
I want to go on a trip. Part of me wants it to be easy with no planning required, a trip to Hawaii or a cruise to Mexico or something else that could be done with little preparation. But another part of me is craving something life changing, like a rustic tour of Vietnam. I only have a week of vacation time, so that is a limiting factor. not to mention money.
