Speak arabic

Why do the Arabic words for "Arabic" and "car" sound so alike? 22 months ago

I’ve had many opportunities to learn Arabic, and if I had, I would be in a radically different place right now, literally and mentally. Anyway, it has finally become apparent that I’m doing myself a disservice by remaining ignorant of my father’s language.

Update: Sadly I did absolutely nothing on this goal this year. It is still important to me though, so I’m leaving it on the list for 2008.

I want to learn arabic. I find it very interesting.

Asked my Database class.. 2 years ago

team members if either of them spoke Arabic. Unfortunately neither do. So I’m still looking. Hey, maybe they know someone who speaks Arabic. I didn’t even think to ask. I could also ask Asma if she knows anyone.

Idea 2 years ago

Had an idea about this goal the other day. There are quite a few foreign students at the university. Some of them must speak Arabic. I think I saw at least one student club/association for Arabic students. Now that I’m taking upper division classes, maybe I could trade tutoring – C for Arabic – or just pay someone $6 an hour or something to tutor me in Arabic. That’d be the least time consuming way for me as well as the least stressful. If I could get someone for 2 hours a week, that’d be almost $50 a month and students can always use extra cash, right? I would do the Pimsleur tapes first and then post an ad looking for someone. I asked Daniel to download those again and he said he would. Hmmm.. I wonder if I could do this with my French goal too?

Haven’t started with everything else going on (classes, moving, etc) but want to start soon. Found a Pimsleur set at the library that I can pick up tomorrow.

Hi everyone! I am arabian and parents are from Jordan and speak arabic. I know the basics, but just that! It’s somehow weird how I can always understand my parents but barely whenever I see an arabic movie (we get those channels). I feel bad about not knowing it, as it is part of me. One day I will learn :) Good luck to everyone!
