After hearing Claire De Lune on a movie score (Yes, Twilight), I was reminded how beautiful it is. I found myself playing air-piano as I was driving, and at my desk at work, even though I’d never seen the music. So I decided to learn. Now, I’m not an accomplished pianist. I took about 3 months of lessons 35 years ago, but I’ve always enjoyed plunking away. We own a very old, well used upright, and 2 of my 5 kids have been taking lessons for a few years now. So I purchased the music and started plunking. I’ve managed to get through the first stanza, and am working on smoothing it out, then I’ll move onto the next. I’m hoping to be able to play it well by the Christmas of 2011. I’ll play other music as well, as I’ve rediscovered how much I enjoy it!

How I did it: Sparse practice over nine months, perhaps half an hour per week on average. Intensive work on fingering and expression of main theme early on. Learnt everything except bars 37-46 initially. Put some extra practice into the legato thirds. Read how I did it…

I’m a professional pianist creating a free, measure by measure video piano lesson tutorial for Debussy “Clair de lune” on YouTube. I show you not only how to play this beautiful piece, but also how to read the actual notes and understand the wonderful art of music notation. My goal is to show how much fun learning to play the piano can be, as well as to spread music notation literacy worldwide. You can find the YouTube lesson playlist at http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=23BA4D8592904FB0
These lessons are designed for absolute beginners who have never played the piano or read a note of music before. Please let me know if this helps, or if you have any specific questions! Have fun!
this song is so beautiful. I dont know how to play the piano but always wanted to play this song.
I played a for a year or so like 3 years ago, but i would love to play this and bella’s lullaby on piano. They are so beautiful.
I’ve started but it’s pretty hard! Anyone have good guitar sheet music?
So…here I go. Into an unfathomable world of creativity that I have been so longing to get a good grasp on…. Yes, the goal at hand seems so difficult to achieve but when I do, it will all be worth it.
I really love to learn it, but I’m gonna wait till I reach that level in piano… maybe six months or a year from now :)
First i’ll listen clair de lune that much that i can sing it notes out of my head (if you know what I mean, my english is very bad). Then I’ll do the same with following notes. And what i’ll do next, i’ll write then.
