see the Dresden Dolls in concert

is TONIGHT!!!!

Last night – and I’ve been to more than 300 concerts – was one of the best live shows I’ve ever witnessed. Apart from the first time I saw Dylan walk on stage, it was the best show I’ve ever been to. I mean, seeing them is now tied up in a close race to my heart with watching Jack White do his rock-god best.

I’ve loved the Dresden Dolls for years, but I never thought I’d actually get to see them live. Cool things like that just don’t happen in Alabama normally, but it did last night.

Two Ton Boa was excellent, and the Dolls opened with “Missed Me.” N told me later I looked like Jesus had just appeared on stage, and really, it kind of felt like that.

Best moment of the night? “Mandy Goes to Med School” with Brian’s crazy drumming (and “Glass Slipper” and “Ultima Esperanza” and…). Oh and their cover of “Fight For Your Right (To Party)” by the Beastie Boys.

I can’t wait til Friday!!!!

Only four days til the show in Birmingham and then three days after that I’ll be in Atlanta.

Tickets are purchased.

Friends are excited.

I heart the Dresden Dolls. Seriously. It’s rare that a day goes by that I can’t be found rockin’ out to Backstabber or Good Day, and if Christopher Lydon isn’t one of the best things you’ve ever heard, there’s something wrong with your ears. So yeah… I LOVE this band, and I have yet to see them live, but that’s going to change very very soon.

Jan. 8th @ WorkPlay in Birmingham. I’ll be there.
Jan. 11th @ The Variety Playhouse in Atlanta. I’ll be there, too. Quite possibly with bells on.
