More attention needed! 2 months ago

So the ticket to Japan was cheaper than expected, that just means that I will be spending more in Japan itself! Haha, no way am I cutting on that vacation.

Ergo: must cut in other areas. Have been slacking the budgetting goal for a bit but will pick it up again starting tomorrow. Actually starting today when I decided for a home lunch instead of eating a sandwich & tea out somewhere. Hopefully this will continue tomorrow.

Currently I am mainly breaking even in the month, hopefully this will improve once I get this budgetting into gear and also with a little added income from another job I got today. More work, less free time. Means more means to do stuff I like, and less time to spend on confronting myself – will delay that as much as possible.

Doing it since January 2009 3 months ago

I have started it to control all the costs and get rid off 6k euro credit that is not decreasing for last two years

    Doing okay 3 months ago

Yesterday I discovered a few hundred euros had been put into my account for some small job I’d done. Hurray! That means that there is at least a chance of breaking even this month instead of inheriting the overdraft from last month. Hurray!

    Debt-Free 3 months ago

I’m more or less debt free. I say more or less because I know that a lot of people my age are worse off than I am. I had to borrow money for a car, and a little to go to China, but I’ve done well to manage my expenses and make those payments, and I’ve also had a lot of greatly appreciated help along the way.

What my goal is, then, is to budget my finances in a way that I actually begin to save. Right now things are stretched just about to the limit, but I want to seek more ways to cut costs and more opportunities to increase or supplement my income so I can begin to plan for the future.

Wesabe.com has been a boon as far as tracking everything. It’s a great way to see exactly how much I earn/spend every month, and what I’m spending it on.

Money plans this month 4 months ago

In February I tried to spend very little. This month I’m giong to write down everrything I do spend and then from the results I should be able to make a workable budget.

    Money thoughts 4 months ago

I have tried to save lots of money this month and next month I intend to write down everything I spend. Then I’ll get on to the detailed stuff.

Again: more month than money :-( 4 months ago
I am giving money to the bank for the overdraft. That is just plain stupid. I really need to keep myself in check with this. Funny thing is that it doesn’t feel like I am spending all that much. Okay, maybe I’m not so fanatic about bringing my own breakfast along in the morning. My trip to the supermarket at Schiphol where I change trains has become so much part of my morning ritual, it is hard to change it.
I will try the following actions this week:
    • Bring my own breakfast along, saving €3.60 every morning. (!)
    • Buy communal lunch together with the people at work, saving us all some cash.
    • Wait for spring to arrive instead of looking for new shoes for the winter. (Gah.) ;)
    • Make home-cooked dinners, per two days, instead of packaged dinners from the supermarket (convenient but expensive).
    • Read books from my pile at home instead of buying new ones along the way.
    • Stay within budget! That means, no overdraft at the end of the month.

    Argh.
Okay, I know I will be spending a bit on the guy’s birthday present this week but overall the month should be doable. Right? Right.
