Although going to the top of the Eiffel Tower is a very touristy thing to do, it was something that I actually wanted to do and did do on August 16, 2012 (see the collage of photos I took). It was possible to climb stairs part of the way, but Andrew didn’t have an appetite to do that so we waited for the elevator. Lines were long. It took forty minutes of waiting in line just to get to the ticket office and onto the elevator and then once on the second level it took another 40 minutes of waiting for the elevator to get to the top. Martin and Lal couldn’t bear the waiting so they ditched us after twenty minutes in the ticket line and told us they would meet us for dinner. I myself was getting cranky as it was already late afternoon and I was weary of standing in the sun and tired from all the walking we did during the day. It turned out to be worth the wait though. It was very crowded at the top, but the views were amazing and I could see that the city was laid out in a very organized way and I could recognize many of the landmarks I had seen during my visit. We didn’t wait until it got dark to see the city skyline all lit up; next time I think that would be the thing to do… 8 months ago
