Learn About My Family History

...sort of brought this up to my mom this weekend. She’s always a little closed-lipped about her family history, but every once in a while I hear some sort of little fascinating tidbit and I want to know more. Her cousin recently passed away, and she’s been in contact with a few of her other cousins as a result, so I think she’s been thinking about her family more. So this weekend I said, “One of these days I’m going to sit you down and interview you about all this stuff, I feel like I don’t know anything about anything.” She acted surprised and thought about it for a second and said, “Yeah, that’s a neat idea, to record it…hmmmm….” So I think that’s my “in”. Now I need to do it before I lose my nerve.

Well so far I pretty much kno nothin about my dad or his side of the family.

Who knew you could learn so many crazy things by looking through your family tree!!

A goal of mine for a long time has been to retrace my roots back into Europe. Last year I met two 84-year-old Aunties in Italy I did not know I had. Unfortunately we could only communicate on the most basic level. So this goal is tied to my goal of Learn Italian.
I could see in their eyes how much they wanted to say but couldn’t. In spring we will get our opportunity.

Mum dropped by the other day and told me about an entire section of her family that I didn’t even know existed. Apparantly they live somewhere down in Victoria.

Some interesting people in there to research including one great aunt who was married 5 (that we know of) times. It is suspected that she had a few other marriages as well during the war.

I’ve got some research to do there.

All I know is that on my mom’s mom’s side, we have a horse theif.

My dad’s mom is from Germany.

My dad’s dad’s family is from Maryland (as far as it’s been traced)

My mom’s dad’s side is Sicillian.

I’m a German/Italian- that’s about all I’ve got?
